Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

At first I thought this isn't one of his great works but I'm so glad I didn't give up. This was a wonderful story of paths crossing and lives changed. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Michael Hiebert’s remarkable debut novel tells the riveting story of a small Southern town haunted by tragedy. Abe Teal wasn’t even born when Ruby Mae Vickers went missing twelve years ago. Few people in Alvin, Alabama, talk about the months spent looking for her, or about how Ruby Mae’s lifeless body was finally found beneath a willow tree. Even Abe’s mom, Leah, Alvin’s only detective, has avoided the subject. But now, another girl is missing.

a beautiful story

The author did a marvelous job of bringing the characters to life. I enjoyed the story and the subtle way racism in the south was vividly portrayed. Family is formed by love not necessarily by blood. I recommend this book highly.

Revisado: 06-16-22
The book is set in England and all voice representations are English with the exception of the main character. He too, was an England resident so that is a bit strange. The story is good and was enjoyable.

good book but multiple loop backs by narrator
Revisado: 05-14-22
I've recently started listening to the Barbara Holloway series and find them enjoyable. I think the narrator changed on this book and is a bit monotonous. There were at least 5 sections where the narrator read the same passage twice.

Very moving
Revisado: 05-13-22
This book brought to life the terrible atrocities committed against the Jewish people. It is a story that all people should read. In our current society this story is lost. I saw first hand how our children's high school text books summarize the holocaust in a page and a half. History is doomed to repeat itself if we don't learn from our past.
