Historia
Hal's triumph over the Tower of Blight should have left his settlement of Brightsong stronger than ever. Instead, it left them without a leader, and their strongest members were sent halfway across the world. Trading frigid cold for unrelenting heat, the Dunes of Midnight are no less vicious than the Shiverglades. Beastmen attack the outskirts of civilization while the Adventurer's Guild falls to ruins. Wanting nothing more than to return home before the tribes of the Shiverglades arrive on Brightsong's doorstep, Hal seeks answers in the metropolis of Dalmanii.

As a bundle I would repurchase. Great narrator, if you listen to the preview and enjoy the raspy voice this is worth it.
This is not a character driven story in its depth, it’s more of a campaign opening that is based more of a “just A.I.” no twists here but it’s light and frustratingly engaging. The good far out weights the plot issues.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Historia
Gabby was living a life that many people could only wish for and she was over it. It wasn’t that she disliked her world—it wasn’t that at all…she loved her family and the life that she and her husband had made. She just wanted more— more action, more stimulation, more excitement. Gabby was bored. But while she spent her days washing sand out of hair and making PB&J sandwiches, a battle was going on in The Realm, a cosmic tug of war over the most inimitable of prizes: Gabby’s very soul.

60% of the time works every time
Revisado: 03-24-24
The reader has that nice supple sound that fits the narrative quite well. Almost a tactile quality that gives gravity to the prose. The story leaves our former protagonist and moves on to his grand daughter. So the story we got introduced to in the first book takes a backseat in this installment. A book within a book that begs the question why not just give us the internal book. Great sections of interpersonal relationships building mixed with dark vindictive punishments. Some subtle horror that retreats from the graphic nature of the first book. Book 3 needs to pull a lot of threads together to form a linear story. The writing quality is top notch, but at present it’s a lot of individual parts that left me wondering what genre I am reading. I will say this, I hope the villain or villains get a lot of front time in the next book. At present I feel like a blind man looking for a flashlight with both hands.

Patrick thought he knew what awaited him in the afterlife. He's learning the hard way that he was dead wrong. He is hunted by a race of giant beasts, the likes of which have never been seen by living eyes, and he is surrounded by the newly-dead from worlds beyond knowing. In this Realm, nothing and no one can be trusted.

There’s a new invisible force at work in our economic and cultural lives. It affects every advertisement we see and every product we buy, from our morning coffee to a new pair of shoes. “Stakeholder capitalism” makes rosy promises of a better, more diverse, environmentally friendly world, but in reality, this ideology, championed by America’s business and political leaders, robs us of our money, our voice, and our identity.

Period piece that is interesting, Reader has a very good flare for the accents, and does a lot with a charming filler book. This book might be targeted towards young adult or teens. Characters lack any emotional depth so connecting to them to increase anxiety is lacking. If you like straightforward good guys doing good and bad guys being simple. Western quality penny novels and the like. The twists are gentle and telegraph-able. High point is the reader has an almost foreboding quality in his melodic cadence, yet the book unfolds step by step instead of any dark and sinister skullduggery occurring. This book falls victim to girl boss syndrome on the male protagonist, he simply wins and is constantly outmaneuvering his seemingly well positioned adversaries. Plot is fine but there is no urgency or peril.

What’s it like to reach out and touch history in the moment, to peel back the layers of hyperbole and political deception for yourself as a simple soldier? Try the Philippine-American War, sometimes referred to as "the first Vietnam" (1899-1902). You might find that “desertion” really means conversion to a noble cause and “enlisting” is just another form of surrender….
