With only a week left before her wedding, Mattie is hesitant to leave Timber Creek, but her K-9 partner Robo’s tracking skills are needed. I love how this author keeps these stories fresh and doesn’t fall into a predictable formula, yet keeps the reader right in there with the action. The narrator is also excellent.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

This really is an amazing story. The struggle for survival and the characters seem so real. The science is pretty intense but the story wouldn’t be the same without it. I highly recommend.

I love a romance novel that doesn’t follow the traditional Hallmark formula. The story has some delightful twists and turns that make it much more meaningful and fun to read.

Henry Franken has a problem with money-he has too much of it. When his unprincipled father dies, thirty-three-year-old Henry inherits a massive estate, including an Upper East Side residential building. He must confront the reality of his new financial status, directly conflicting with his well-honed identity as a "progressive liberal."

Historia
Talk of impending war is a steady drumbeat throughout North Carolina, though Joetta McBride pays it little heed. She and her husband, Ennis, have built a modest but happy life for themselves, raising two sons, fifteen-year-old Henry, and eleven-year-old Robert, on their small subsistence farm. They do not support the Confederacy's position on slavery, but Joetta considers her family to be neutral, believing this is simply not their fight. Her opinion is not favored by many in their community, including Joetta's own father-in-law, Rudean.

OMG, the narration is really bad
Revisado: 03-23-25
The narrator for this book is terrible. Her unnatural cadence is so disruptive it’s hard to follow the story. She does this sort of “sing song” thing with her voice and it is incredibly distracting and unnatural. I’ve only made it through one chapter and I’m not sure I can even stand it long enough to finish the book.

Historia
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

It’s a good story with multiple subplots that kept me interested. I loved that both the leading characters were strong and smart. I hate wishy, washy female leads and Rowen was definitely not one of those.

Historia
It is 1950. London is still reeling from World War II, and Margery Benson, a schoolteacher and spinster, is trying to get through life, surviving on scraps. One day, she reaches her breaking point, abandoning her job and small existence to set out on an expedition to the other side of the world in search of her childhood obsession: an insect that may or may not exist - the golden beetle of New Caledonia. When she advertises for an assistant to accompany her, the woman she ends up with is the last person she had in mind.

I just couldn't connect with the characters.
Revisado: 07-02-24
When is this book suppose to get entertaining? I’m 21 chapters and 4.5 hours into the book and I just keep thinking, when is the real story going to start. Both main characters are pretty pathetic and unlikable and the book just keeps getting darker as I go along. I think I will just return it. At this point it’s been such drudgery to listen to, I don’t really care about how it ends.

Historia
Emily Emerson is used to being alone; her dad ran out on the family when she was just a kid, her mom died when she was 17, and her beloved grandmother has just passed away as well. But when she's laid off from her reporting job, she finds herself completely at sea until the day she receives a beautiful, haunting painting of a young woman standing at the edge of a sugarcane field under a violet sky. That woman is recognizable as her grandmother - and the painting arrived with no identification other than a handwritten note saying, "He always loved her."

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Revisado: 06-08-24
Wow! So many violent deaths, and not just the bad guys. I'm 60 minutes from the end and I'm not sure I can finish this book. Michael Crichton use to try to at least save his main characters, but James Patterson, sot so much. If images of people burning to death from volcanic lava make you queasy, then this is not your book.
