Like old friends
Revisado: 11-30-23
I am a lover of Historical Fiction. And as such I have binged listened to the whole series, twice. That should say something in itself. I treat the captain and the doctor like old friends and am going to miss their adventures when this is finally finished. There was nothing I didn’t like- unless it is their end, and I’m not there yet, I hope.

In this dark and gritty collection - featuring short stories from Jim Butcher, Seanan McGuire, Kevin J. Anderson, and Rob Thurman - nothing is as simple as black and white, light and dark, good and evil.... Unfortunately, that's exactly what makes it so easy to cross the line.

Revisado: 02-18-23
There is a place where most good people never want to go…to dispatch thoroughly evil things to their just deserts and not feel dirty doing so, This set of stories is a guilty pleasure.

Historia
25 BC. Titus Cervianus is no ordinary soldier. A former surgeon from the city of Ancyra, he's now a capsarius—a combat medic. Cervianus is a pragmatist, a scientist and truly unpopular with his legion. The Twenty Second Deiotariana have been sent to deal with uprisings and chaos in Egypt. Yet the Twenty Second is no ordinary legion either. Founded as the private royal army of one of Rome's most devoted allies, the king of Galatia, their ways are not the same as the other legions, a factor that sets them apart and causes friction with their fellow soldiers.

The villain Cleander has fallen, his wickedness gone from the imperial court, but his influence lives on. Amongst the Praetorians, a network of spies, killers and thieves remain, clawing on to the power they have enjoyed. Rufinus, returned to the Guard at the hands of the devious Frumentarii, Rome’s imperial secret service, is intent on bringing the entire web of villainy to justice. Beyond the second century AD, a story not unlike the politics of today- just in Togas
Revisado: 01-20-23
I’ve been enjoying myself with this series. Am annoyed that I might be at the end, even though it was nicely sewn up at the end. This is not a stand alone book and even the history buff patricians would enjoy it for it’s well executed story arc.

Historia
Promoted to the elite Praetorian Guard in the thick of battle, a young legionary is thrust into a seedy world of imperial politics and corruption. Tasked with uncovering a plot against the newly crowned Emperor Commodus, his mission takes him from the cold Danubian border all the way to the heart of Rome, the villa of the Emperor’s scheming sister, and the great Colosseum. What seems a straightforward, if terrifying, assignment soon descends into Machiavellian treachery and peril as everything in which young Rufinus trusts and believes is called into question....

Makes history even more interesting
Revisado: 11-22-22
I never thought I would enjoy 200 years after Caesar as much as I have this offering from the author who gave me a good idea of how Roman legions actually worked. The politics after Marcus Aurelius were just as mean spirited, convoluted and downright nasty as we have even now we haven’t learned anything from History.

This series has given me a new understanding of the workings of Ancient Rome through the eyes of the legions. A welcome respite from the miserable politics.

Good to come back to.

I almost wish I had read this book before Dragonflight. It fleshed out a good deal of the story, and at the end dealing with Lessa and Fax,
It seemed to be a almost word for word rendition of the beginning of Dragonflight. I only said that because I have been going through the whole series. A good read and well done for performance. Could have been a Master at Harper Hall.

Pell's Station, orbiting the alien world simply called Downbelow, had always managed to remain neutral in the ever escalating conflict between The Company, whose fleets from Earth had colonized space, and its increasingly independent and rebellious colony worlds. But Pell's location - - on the outer edge of Earth's defensive perimeter - makes her the focal point in the titanic battle of colony worlds fighting for independence.

Even better now
Revisado: 06-06-16
I read this book many years ago when it first came out in print. It was good then, but even better now. The realities of space station life, exoplanet life, the inevitable politics of us versus them at the height of the Cold War here, makes this story one for the ages. I think this might have been the first offering by Ms Cherryh. She never fails to amaze or draw us into the fray.

Another page turner from deepest, darkest, Chicago!
Revisado: 03-11-16
Harry Dresden is back with a vengeance accruing more awesome powers , having more influential friends, and gaining more devious enemies.
Harry is as conflicted as ever still not sure of his place in the supernatural world but he's getting smarter.
This is my third time reading this book actually listening from Mr. Marsters dramatization (and he does a damn good job ) and it seems that the Wizard is leading up to a Apochalyptical battle royal in the same scope as Tolkien or even Butcher's Codex Alera. It is a Classic in the making- if only Harry would stop quoting Star Wars!
