Historia
In a time when our relationship to the natural world is ruled by the violence and greed of unbridled consumerism, Wendell Berry speaks out in these prescient essays, drawn from his 50-year campaign on behalf of American lands and communities. The writings gathered in The World-Ending Fire are the unique product of a life spent farming the fields of rural Kentucky with mules and horses, and of the rich, intimate knowledge of the land cultivated by this work.

Berry's important wisdom, which serve nearly forgotten
Revisado: 12-27-24
There is so much wisdom in Wendell Berry's words. Listening, it seems I can feel the hours he spent in quiet, thinking. That coupled with his knowledge of farming gives credibility to his words.

Historia
In this book for the curious, spiritual seeker, Madeleine L'Engle offers relevant lessons drawn from the life of Jacob from the Old Testament. Here, the son of Isaac becomes a spiritual companion to L'Engle, equipping her to deal with earthly and psychological struggles. Throughout her journey, L'Engle offers contemporary answers to questions that burden modern day listeners and believers. With her customary fearlessness and candor, she broaches such topics as the significance of angels, redemption, sexual identity, forgiveness, and the seemingly constant conflict between good and evil.

Madeleine talks about life, justice and God's way which is above justice. As always her insights are illuminating and the foundation of her understanding is love.

Historia
In The Soul of Desire, psychiatrist Curt Thompson suggests that underneath all our longings is the desire to be known - and what's more, that this fundamental yearning manifests itself in our deep need to make things of beauty, revealing who we are to others. Weaving together neuroscience and spiritual formation to open up new horizons for thinking not only about the nature of the mind but about what it means to be human, The Soul of Desire is a mature, creative work.

My wish would be for every Christian to read this book in the next year. I found it to be insightful and timely. A great step in my Christian growth, even after many years of being a Christian.

Historia
Francis of Assisi is one of the most beloved of all saints. Both traditional and entirely revolutionary, he was a paradox. He was at once down-to-earth and reaching toward heaven, grounded in the rich history of the Church while moving toward a new understanding of the world beyond. Franciscan Father Richard Rohr helps us look beyond the birdbath image of the saint to remind us of the long tradition founded on Francis' revolutionary, radical, and life-changing embrace of the teachings of Jesus.

Challenged My Thinking
Revisado: 01-12-21
Although I don't agree with everything Rohr says, his perspective challenges my ideas and theology as a Christian. And I desperately need this challenge. If we love God and believe in the Bible, we cannot argue the fact that Jesus taught us the way of love. It is that Way we must follow.
