Just B Corp Certified & This Was a Great Resource
Revisado: 04-28-24
Our company was just B Corp Certified so I picked this up as soon as I heard about it. It's a great overview and still gave more insights for me to think about for now and the future. It will also be a succinct resource for our team, especially the partners. And I love that it presents a global view, not just US.

Historia
Appetite for America is the incredible real-life story of Fred Harvey - told in depth for the first time ever. As a young immigrant, Fred Harvey worked his way up from dishwasher to household name. With the verve and passion of Fred Harvey himself, Stephen Fried tells the story of how this visionary built his business from a single lunch counter into a family empire whose marketing and innovations we still encounter in myriad ways. Inspiring, instructive, and hugely entertaining, Appetite for America is historical biography that is as richly rewarding.

The History of the West Through a Family's Eyes
Revisado: 04-28-24
I really enjoyed this book and have already recommended it to others. I'd never heard of Fred Harvey until a docent in a Santa Fe museum introduced me to him. Since I love railroad travel, have a background in hospitality, and was going to continue traveling in the Southwest, I decided to give it a listen. So glad I did! Really fascinating personal and family history, as well as a history of the settling of the West. It was a really interesting, well-written book.

Historia
In an age where everyone else's successes are flaunted in front of you on social media, it can be a struggle to feel true happiness and contentment exactly where you are. Throw in difficult circumstances—loss, heartbreak, change, midlife—and it's easy to understand why you feel lonely, lost, unsure of yourself, stuck, and, if you're honest with yourself, flat-out unhappy.

Honest, Relatable, and Needed
Revisado: 04-28-24
First of all, I love it when author's read their own books! It always brings more depth and authenticity to the book. Second, I loved this book because it is honest, relatable, and needed. The title and content hit home with me, and I think many other women will feel the same. Though I don't have kids (or horses, ha!), I still loved the stories and how they brought her ideas to life. Sarah really does a terrific job expressing what a lot of us are feeling and even offers up her own practical insights for help and healing. Whether you're having a bad day, a good day, or just a day, you'll be glad you picked this title.

Another great book by Dale Partridge
Revisado: 08-10-18
I loved People Over Profit, so I was excited to dig into this one. Great content again. I’m two years into my business, but there are still a lot of fantastic reminders. I only had two issues. First, I love that Dale reads it, but he talks very fast, and is on to the next idea before I’ve fully processed the last. Second, because of that and the short format, I wish there was a PDF to download in Audible with the steps quickly outlined. I’ve seen others do this, and it’s really helpful. But overall, I still loved the book and would recommend it...just the physical version. 😉

Historia
Becca Stevens calls herself a "snake oil salesman" - in a positive sense. The social enterprise she founded, Thistle Farms, provides purpose and employment to abused women, providing them with the economic well-being to begin new lives. The natural body-care products that Thistle Farms manufactures - balms, soaps, and lotions, whose ingredients include essential oils - bring healing comfort to the company's customers, too.

Loved her story!
Revisado: 02-08-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I've already given it to a friend. It is a terrific story about Becca's growing up, and what led her to start Magdalene Farms. And I loved the essential oils recipes.
What does Becca Stevens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It's her own experiences, so it's always best to hear from the author. She has a really kind voice, and you can hear her care for others.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
The hurts that happen to us can be made into something that empowers us.

Historia
America now imports twice as much food as it did a decade ago. What does this increased reliance on imported food mean for the people around the globe who produce our food? Kelsey Timmerman set out on a global quest to meet the farmers and fisherman who grow and catch our food, working alongside them: loading lobster boats in Nicaragua, splitting cocoa beans with a machete in Ivory Coast, and hauling tomatoes in Ohio. Where Am I Eating? tells fascinating stories of the farmers and fishermen around the world who produce the food we eat.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Revisado: 03-29-14
What did you love best about Where Am I Eating??
The way the personal stories and first-hand accounts make the supply chain info easy to understand, and take actions of my own.
What other book might you compare Where Am I Eating? to and why?
His other book, Where Am I Wearing. Another excellent read on supply chain, while making it funny and personal.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Didn't care for the narrator. His pronunciation was off, his voice kept getting soft and I had to adjust the sound multiple times and his inflection made some serious points sound funny.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
I need to research the food certifications better.
Any additional comments?
I have read both of Kelsey's books now, and recommend them to anyone who will listen. They are extremely informative, but at the same time being personal and funny. It's a great way to sort through that kind of information. I believer very deeply in the issue of supply chain, and both of this books, Where Am I Wearing and Where Am I Eating, where a big help in research. Sometimes I was left with more questions, like the issue of child labor, but it was a good thing. It will help me help me keep researching. There are a lot of systematic issues in here, ones that will take countries a long time to sort through, but in the mean time, I have the ability to speak with my purchases to let them all know what's important to me. Sort of getting on a plane to meet those world leaders, this helps me make a difference at home...while I'm still booking those plane tickets. ;)

Would you listen to Where Am I Wearing? again? Why?
Absolutely. A really fun way to ingest this kind of information. Very well presented, and poses great questions.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
His personal stories make the info even more interesting without sorting through a lot of dry data on the subject of supply chain.
Have you listened to any of Mirron Willis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. He was ok. Not great, but ok.
If you could give Where Am I Wearing? a new subtitle, what would it be?
Wouldn't change.
