Historia
Life doesn't always go according to plan. For ex-CIA Agent Samuel Caulfield, his plans were ripped out from under him after a chance encounter in a firefight. One deal with a dark goddess later, and he's cast into the trenches of a Victorian world, with clashing empires, Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, and more. Surrounded by death, on the front lines of a war without intelligence, he'll have to rely on his wits, his platoon, and a surprise gift from his goddess.

not much of a reviewer but I really enjoyed the book. As I had sen in other reviews it could use a little filling out of characters but it is a first book in what will be a great series.
As to how engaging or as to how the narration went......I selected this book this morning and couldn't stop. I hope another book in this setting co es out soon. probably going to have to see if there is a printed version of a book two out yet when I get done with this review.

disappointing
Revisado: 10-17-20
I grabbed this book because it was a book read by Andrea and it had a good story tag. I think that where the good part end. We all know the Trope this is, it may be worn but admit it that why we read these stories.
The problem is that is all it is, a good story line. 50% of the book done and all I can say is this is mind numbing slow pace with A weak / dumb MC.
I like to read and listen to stories put out by new writers. I read a lot on forums such as RR. and find quite a few worth being a patreon of. I like to watch the improvement and growth or the story and its writer. I won't tear up a new or growing writer, I'll give my Constructive criticism and thumbs up when needed. but this shouldn't have made it to publish for pay.
This needed a lot more growth before being publish for more than a dollar or two. It has, or had potential to be rewritten and improved on.
I normally don't write reviews but I waited till the next day before deciding to warn other from wasting money. But if like me you use your free credit a month for exploring new authors but like a weak mc, slower than slow pace of a well worn story we normally like. than this is for you. Otherwise I suggest passing it by. I'm going to see if he has other books and discover weather this was just beginning trash or a staple of his quality.

great read
Revisado: 05-04-20
I have read this series an untold number of times. I remember buying the books as they were released and reading them till they fell apart, then I bought the omnibus. There were times i started over as soon as i was done with the third book.
I still have the omnibus from some time in the 90s and needed to replace it but couldn't find another copy. I checked and found the audio book and love it. It is also great that she came back after 20 years and continued the series.
For those that like to nit pick there is some inconsistency with the world, primarily with how characters state how things are and how they actually end up being.Other than that it is a great read. A little slow to build at times but worthy of reread multiple times for me.

Historia
Yubin knows she's different than the other girls in the pop group SIITY. Yes, they all got sucked into the same machine, giving up schooling and signing ridiculously long contracts with no guarantee of success, but that's how Korean stars are made. Yubin is supposed to be thankful for that, but she isn't. She doesn't even like the girls she performs with. She's more connected to her former schoolmate Jieun, even though all they ever do is text. Over the last two months, Jieun has become her confidant and best friend, connecting Yubin to the real world in a way she desperately needs. Now that SIITY is going to appear on the reality show Incredible Race: Asia, Yubin will need that connection more than ever, which is why she's devastated to discover Jieun has been dead five years and is actually haunting her.

Impulse buy that was worth it
Revisado: 03-29-19
This story was off my regular beaten path but other recent books that I normally wouldn't have read in the past have turned out to be good.
I really liked the character inter action with each other and the steady buildup to the end. It wasnt unrealistic to imagine the way the story unfolds. It has a good conclusion to the end (not a cliffhanger) but does leave with a foreshadow that makes me want the next book asap.
The story covers some adult themes that are handled pretty tastefully (unfortunately real to life) but it also shows throughout the book how through growing friendships and understanding it can become a bond that can strengthen both the individual and the friendships.
I'm considering putting this on my allowed list for my youngest daughter (teen). I think it makes it clear that no matter who you are you aren't alone. you just need to confide in someone and not hold onto painfully secrets. I hope this gets what I'm trying to say across, I'm not the review type.

overall this has been a good listen. I drive truck and listen to LOTS of books.
With out giving a spoiler I had to stop and write this. I was laughing for over 50mi until I found a rest area.
I went to my favorite music site and listened to the song the bard played. picturing what he was and the whole situation.....So...if you listen to this book and you get to the point I'm at...you will know...stop the book and listen to the song before finishing the scene. it will be a soundtrack that will liven any mood. lol

one of my all time favorites
Revisado: 10-09-16
I can not count how many times I have re-read this series. I started reading it when it was first published. since then I had worn out 2ea of the individual books and 3 of the trade. I travel a lot now so I went with the audiobook of all three, unfortunately I had them all finished before half the week was through. I always felt there were some inconsistencies within the world she had created but it has always been a great story. I always know what was to be on the next page or chapter but get caught up in it and can't skip a word. Can't wait to turn the page.
