Excellent narration!
Revisado: 02-13-21
The story is the very excellent culmination of the 9 earlier books. And the narration is superb! The narrator captures each character’s personality with a different voice and then remains completely consistent with those voices. She reads kind of fast, so you have to pay attention or you miss things. But that really moves the story along and gives the plot a sense of urgency. Very very well done.

Not the best narrator
Revisado: 08-31-20
The narrator does a pretty poor job At differentiating the characters. A lot of the time I can’t tell who is speaking. And the main protagonist is a 14 year old boy who sounds like a 45 year old man. The voices for the other characters do not remain the same.
The story is full of action, much of it gruesome. The hero’s budding girlfriend is incredibly tedious, can’t hold her tongue even when it is going to get everyone killed, and she never learns the lesson. I keep hoping someone will push her off a cliff... hopefully her character will eventually mature because I’m sure she is here for the duration. I’m still sticking with it, but may not last much longer, the book is getting pretty tedious.

Bad Narrator
Revisado: 05-18-20
I'm only in chapter one and I can barely listen to it. Terrible narrator. The book seems interesting, but I'm going to have to get the book and just read it, or do text to speech which would be better than this narrator.

Legend has it that when the Gabriel Hounds run howling over the crumbling palace of Dar Ibrahim, high in the Adonis Valley of Lebanon, death will follow on their heels. When rich, spoilt Christie Mansel arrives at the decaying palace to look after her eccentric Aunt Harriet, she arrives to the sound of howling dogs. The palace is riddled with hidden passages and the servants are unwilling to let anyone see Harriet during the day. It seems the palace hides an extraordinary secret...one that somebody is willing to kill to keep.

Makes you want to visit the Levant
Revisado: 03-10-20
I've enjoyed re-reading this book for the past 45 years and am pleased to have it on audible. Overall the narrator does a good job, but the Lebanese driver (hired car) sounds like he is a London cabbie. That accent was never used by any driver in the Levant, but it is more funny than offensive. The story of a young lady visiting her eccentric Aunt, who has based her lifestyle on Lady Hester Stanhope, builds gradually into a tense mystery full of Salukis, harems and sinister characters. Mary Stuart's description of the locale is, as always, wonderful.

Rating narrator
Revisado: 02-27-20
The books are great, lots of adventure, magic and character development. The narrator is very good, but it is really irritating that he didn't take half an hour to listen to any of the books in the first trilogy. All the place names, and many of the people's names are pronounced differently, and not as well. The obvious pronunciations were used in the outstretched shadow trilogy. This narrator seems to add or remove syllables in unlikely ways that bother me every time he says them. On the other hand he is very good at changing voices for the different characters and keeping the pace of the book moving well. Overall good narration, but I don't know why different narrators can't be consistent with each other.

Mage Errant: Publisher's Pack contains books one and two of the Mage Errant series: Into the Labyrinth and Jewel of the Endless Erg. Hugh of Emblin is, so far as he's concerned, the worst student that the Academy at Skyhold has ever seen. He can barely cast any spells at all, and those he does cast tend to fail explosively.

NOT A REVIEW OF THE BOOK!
Revisado: 02-13-20
The narrator has a great voice, but an incredibly tedious way of reading. There are very VERY long pauses between each sentence and his tone doesn't vary, making it extremely monotonous. I'm only into chapter 3 and I'm about to give up on listening. I love listening, but despite my failing eyesight this one may call for the old fashioned way of just reading. Don't bother with the audible version of this book (which I think might be okay, but the reading is so boring I can't tell).

Very cool
Revisado: 02-13-20
Original dystopian post-apocalyptic world building. The heroine has been infected by bug nanobots and is hiding out in a junkyard to keep her infection from spreading. She is attacked by a group wanting to steal the hidden spaceship she is keeping more or less in plain site. She finds out a great deal about the spaceship, the warrior she had earlier rescued and the junkyard cats.
I really enjoyed it and hope there is a follow on full-length series.

Great book, great narrator, great series
Revisado: 01-20-20
Wonderful world building mixed with lots of humor. The characters are engaging and believable. The narrator really brings the story to life. One quibble, Discord is just Wind Wolf's name for Storm Song. It is disconcerting when her voice changes to male when the nickname is used.
Breathlessly waiting for the next book in the series!!

Great story
Revisado: 08-12-19
Since this is an audible review I'm going to mainly rate the narrators. First though, this is a really fun, unusual fantasy with werewolves, vampires, witches and bad guys. The characters are really well drawn and I loved the story.
The tale is told from the viewpoint of 4 characters, Elise who is a magical angelic being/warrior; Seth who is a werewolf and the Prince of Boston; Joshua who is a newly bitten werewolf who didn't know that he actually came from a werewolf family; and Decker who is a 300 year-old vampire.
Elise is from Boston but grew up in Greece, and her narrator gave her a fairly international accent. Joshua is a kid who grew up in a family of mechanics in upstate New York, and his narrator has not given him any particular accent, he just sounds like a teenage boy. Decker is the very old vampire who has lived in various places and is currently living in Boston, his narrator has given him an aristocratic type of accent. Seth is the heir to the Boston werewolf pack who grew up in Boston but is currently living with the wolf king in New York. His narrator gave him a sort of growly, heavy Boston accent, which is perfect for his character. The problem is that this seems to be the only accent he does. When he is narrating the kid from Upstate NY, the 300 year old vampire, and and the Prince of Boston all have growly Boston accents. It is very difficult to understand who is talking. And all of a sudden Elise sounds like the vampire.
Overall the narrators really nailed their characters. Some of the narrators were more successful than others in maintaining the continuity of the secondary characters when they take over their POV. But the book was fun to listen to and overall it was interesting to have the character's point of view changing. I highly recommend it.

Different narrator
Revisado: 12-16-18
Yes, it is true book two has a different narrator. And I noticed it for all of about 15 minutes. Fortunately both narrators do a good job bringing the characters to life. Zackman reads quickly, but is easy to listen to. If you like stories that include magic, mysticism and murder I recommend the whole series. The characters grow, and grow on you. Good read.
