The first two chapters are quite coarse and I wasn't sure if this was going to be the book for me. I am not a prude by any means but I flinched a few times. I stuck with it and now realize the author was trying to set the tone for his family background and upbringing as it was an important aspect of his story. After that, the book just took off. It is a bittersweet story of a kid trying to make his way in very difficult and unfair circumstances. I admire his strength of character especially after it never being modeled to him at home. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading his others. The narration is awesome.

My only issue (however slight) is the reference to photos throughout the book that you obviously cannot see. I think the book would benefit from editing these references out.

Robyn Crawford was a steadfast friend to Whitney Houston before the bluster of fame, drug dependency and Whitney's very dysfunctional family forced their paths to diverge. This is a behind-the-scenes story of their relationship and the complications of the feelings they had for each other in a less than enlightened time. Robyn was a true ally for Whitney and was her rock. It also chronicles Whitney's long-time-history with hard drugs that very much leave Bobby B off the hook.

We all know the ending, but the path to get there had many highs and lows. Robyn tells the story from her perspective with a lot of love and very little ego. I thoroughly enjoyed reading what was ultimately Robyn's story.

OK, so I was never a Beastie Boys fan but I was sure they must have a good story. They most certainly do. I usually listen to my Audible books on my way home from work as a way to de-stress. I found myself literally laughing out loud, by myself, in my car. The stories they share from growing up in the 70's and 80's were very relatable and brought the memories flooding back. The narration by a variety of people added a fun twist to an already great story. Through all you can feel the bond that they have that has endured celebrity and the loss of Adam Yauch. I was so bummed when I reached the end of this book. I highly recommend it! PS - I am now a Beastie Boys fan.

Narration takes away from the fascinating story...

Would you consider the audio edition of Reckless to be better than the print version?

No, in this case the jumpy, uneven, mispronounced and in some spots halting narration or consistently incorrect inflection take away from the great story Chrissie has to tell. It's very distracting. Maybe it was the bad editing that is to blame? I would have had her re-read 25% of what is in this book.

What did you like best about this story?

The whole story is fabulous. Love it.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Rosanna Arquette and Chrissie Hynde ?

I would definitely listen to one by Chrissie, I would REALLY hesitate before listening to another narration by Rosanna.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud on a number of occasions.

Any additional comments?

I really wish Chrissie or someone else had narrated this book. I found the less-than-stellar narration SO distracting that it takes away from the story. I listen to audiobooks on my way home from work as a way of relaxing and disconnecting because at times you can REALLY get into the story and lose yourself. I swear, every time I am getting to that point in this book the flow of the narration is interrupted by a stumbling of words, phrases or weird, unnatural stops and it completely snaps you out of the zone. I don't mind her voice at all (and nothing against her personally) but this was not good.
