Historia
Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

Loved this historical read.
Revisado: 01-03-23
I learned of Booker T. Washington in school, but not to this extent. What a fascinating and great man. Had me in tears a couple times towards the end of the book when his friends bought him a vacation to Europe and his honorary degree from Cambridge. I wasn't happy with the narration, and I'd compare it to the likeness of mid 20th century sportscaster. It would have been much better read in more of Southern drawl. All in all, a great book of a great American. Now, I'd like to read some of his speeches.

Historia
In 1882, a notorious outlaw and a childhood friend of Billy the Kid was released from prison where he had been serving time for killing a Texas Ranger. His freedom finally secured, the outlaw disappeared and was never heard from again. Never, that is, until 1948, when he came out of hiding after almost 70 years. In the course of proving his identity to a court of law, the outlaw revealed that his friend Billy the Kid was not killed by Pat Garrett but was still alive even to that day.

This book made a believer out of me. There is no doubt, Pat Garrett did not kill Billy the Kid.
