Historia
Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

Beautiful & Accessible
Revisado: 09-22-23
I loved the translation and how the translator brought this ancient story to life. Claire Danes was excellent as the narrator, imbuing the right level of emotion throughout.
Although the introduction was long, I found it fascinating and wouldn't have appreciated the story as much without first having listened to it. I plan to relisten to the introduction and perhaps the whole book as well.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Brilliant & Thought Provoking
Revisado: 12-03-22
The story is intricate, but ties together, and is filled with points at which to reflect on and relate to both our modern era and our understanding of the past.
The story moves quickly and it feels like we're along for the ride with the compelling protagonists. There are a few different characters I thought were super interesting especially Diana and Adam.
It took me a few chapters to lock into the narration, but ultimately I found John Waters perfect for a conspiratorial tale, with his raspy voice.
Highly memorable, and recommended.

Historia
Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Essential Listening
Revisado: 03-03-21
This is a rare audiobook, that I will listen to multiple times. Bryan Stevenson's delivery was nuanced and deeply moving. It's such a difficult subject matter to confront, but with his guidance it's possible and in a deeper sense, it is necessary. I learned and grew as a result of this book. Thank you Mr. Stevenson for all you do!

Excellent Primer, Well Done
Revisado: 05-31-04
I recommend "How to Become a Marketing Superstar." I've run a small business for the past five years, but have little marketing experience (most of my business has come from personal or client referrals). Jeffrey Fox's presentation of marketing principles was both informative and enjoyable. I found the exercises in the book helped make listening an interactive experience. My only complaint is that the audio version is abridged, and an important concept in the book, "dollarizing" your value, is only summarized. The author refers listeners to the print version of the book for details on this concept. That being said, he still gives you a working idea of the concept, and the rest of the book made the purchase and listen more than worth it.
