What a story!
Revisado: 03-30-24
This book is amazing! The telling of the Alaska wilderness makes you feel like you are there. The story is incredible and keeps you hooked, waiting for more. It’s unpredictable yet satisfying and I love when a female protagonist comes out on top vs succumbing to the wants and needs of a terrible mad in an unbelievable circumstance.
Great book. Well worth it.

Listeners of all ages have followed and cherished Anne Lamott’s funny and perceptive writing about her own faith through decades of trial and error. And in her new audiobook, Help, Thanks, Wow, she has coalesced everything she knows about prayer to these fundamentals. It is these three prayers - asking for assistance from a higher power, appreciating what we have that is good, and feeling awe at the world around us - that can get us through the day and can show us the way forward.

I wish I would have found this sooner
Revisado: 03-30-24
This book is everything. I have never believed in an old man in the sky God and I have a hard time understanding those who do. Organized religion terrifies me. I have never prayed, truly prayed, because who am I praying to? And why? This book opened my eyes to realize you don’t have to pray to anything or anyone. Just do. And all you need are three words. Help. Thanks. Wow.
I’ve been in recovery for 4 years (with a few slips here and there) and I’ve spend hours and hours in meetings, rolling my eyes at the old timers talking about prayer and finding a higher power etc etc. I wish someone would’ve given me this book on my first day in the rooms. Everything would have been different.
After I listened to this book for the second time, I was having a wonderful day and for the first time ever, I prayed out loud. “Thanks.” The tears came and the relief that washed over me is impossible to describe. I have since recommended and given this book to so many people, all of which have come back to me with raving reviews.
Anne’s voice is so perfect. She’s dry, sarcastic slightly monotone and beyond sweet. You truly feel like you’re listening to the grandmother you never had (or always wanted) sharing with you the most simple insight. All I can say is, Thanks. And Wow.

I’m not entirely sure of what just happened, but I loved it!
Revisado: 03-30-24
To try and describe this book is impossible. It is a compilation of multiple stories revolving around a house full of secrets. Each story is told in a different perspective, some first person, some through letters, one from the perspective of a beetle, and much more with a narrator to tie it all together. The writing is unbelievably creative and unique and the readers are spectacular. You’ll spend half the time just thinking “what in the heck is going on?!” But it all ends up making sense, sort of. It’s a very intellectual read and you’ll be blown away in awe of the way the author crafts their sentences. Brilliant, to say the least!

Great writing - beautiful reader
Revisado: 12-10-23
I was 10 when Polly Klass was kidnapped out of her bedroom and I can still see the posters in my memory. This book is thoughtful about retelling her case while discussing a slightly similar fictional one. It’s a little predictable but you won’t mind because the story telling is lovely and the reader is incredible. It’s covers hard topics but it’s beautifully told. Highly recommend.

This book was so boring. There were moments of good and Meryl Streeps performance was outstanding but in all… I would’ve put it down if it was a paperback. Beautiful writing and a fun insight into the acting world but I kept waiting for something to happen and nothing ever happened.

Thought provoking, entertaining, and compassionate
Revisado: 03-25-22
I enjoyed this unique angle of a WWII story, it's not the typical "kind stranger saving others" tale, although that is in there from time to time. The character description and the telling of the history of this dark time will draw you in and you won't want to put it down.
Not everyone gets a happy, predictable ending and that's OK - it's real and thought provoking, especially when we see what is happening in current day Ukraine.
Highly recommend.

Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

One of the best books I've ever read
Revisado: 03-25-22
The creative and informed delivery of multiple stories that all tie in together was not only wildly entertaining but also incredibly impressive. I can't say enough about how much I loved this book. Truly did not want it to end and when it was over I have thought about it almost every single day.
You'll be confused for the first couple of chapters then it will start to unfold clearly so just be patient.
This book makes you think about your own life, the planet, our future, the past, and the downfall of human destruction and power. But it also gives. you hope and shows the compassion of humans and how we all are connected in our interactions. It's beautifully written and the reader is fabulous. You feel like you are listening to a movie.
Highly recommend - one of the best books I've ever read.

Beautiful, Magical and Informative
Revisado: 03-25-22
As a person who has been keeping snails for the past year I found is book touched me personally, in so many ways. The writing is beautiful and she includes snail "facts" in a tactful and interesting fashion. I didn't want the book to be over! The reader has the most calming voice and it was just a beautiful story overall.
It made me feel better that I'm not the only one out there who finds snails so fascinating!

Sweet Valley High For Adults, Kind Of
Revisado: 03-25-22
I don't think I've been this disappointed in a book in a long time. Based on reviews, I was expecting something wonderful but was given a shallow story where everyone is the MOST famous/beautiful/rich/talented/tortured person that ever lived and they make out with each other at a party. It's ridiculous.
I kept waiting for wonderful but it never came - I painfully listened until the end just hoping something would happen - it never did. The story line is so bleh there aren't even any words other than bleh to describe it.
Save yourself and find something else. Unless you're drunk on a beach and need an easy listen, I highly do not recommend this book.

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Revisado: 03-13-22
Everyone I know is obsessed with this book and after reading it I’m not sure why. The story is alright, typical WWII tale of people saving people. I just wasn’t entranced as I was with other books on a similar topic. The reader is great though and it’s an easy read/listen. Just not my favorite and I really wanted to love it based on the fanfare it received.
