Shallow compared with Magician series
Revisado: 08-23-24
I’m big fan of Magician series, I lost count of how many books I read. This one feels like it was conceived a bit in a rush. Re-explaining concepts for the characters that they should already known just to be re-explained again few chapters later to the point of getting annoying. Other issue was a couple of oversights on the story that were a bummer. (spoiler alert) Ie: 1) chapter 30 Magnus is transporting back and forth in Garn meanwhile Hatu is on Midkemia, that shouldn’t be possible as described in the beginning of the book. 2) why all the trouble of passing a ship through a rift?! Just haul things over the rift! It would be faster, easier and safer. Over engineering doesn’t land well with century old wisdom. It feels like the book spends too much time on trivial things instead of going deeper in complexity and philosophy. In any case, it’s a fun book but not to the level of the Magician series. I hope it gets better on next books.

Set in early 1980s Poland against the violent decline of communism, a tender and passionate story of first love between two young men who eventually find themselves on opposite sides of the political divide - a stunningly poetic and heartrending literary debut for fans of Andre Aciman, Garth Greenwell, and Alan Hollinghurst.

Better than expected

Finally a gay book that has a solid story with well developed characters. Narrator is really good, great interpretation without being over dramatic.

Good story and narrators
Revisado: 01-27-24
Keeps you on the edge with all the twists and turns. Story is captivating but feels like the characters miss a bit of depth. Narrators are also good. Solid 4 stars book.

Pointless rants and boring jokes
Revisado: 01-10-24
I don’t understand how this book have this high rating. I even tried to listen on 2x to check where it was going… it seems the writer got lost.

plain story, plain characters..
Revisado: 07-16-19
I would suggest to the author to create deeper story, spend more time creating the characters. The story was too simple and predictable. If wasn't for the sex talk I would say that is a story for 10 year olds.
