Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Stay for the Next Day
Revisado: 02-03-25
I almost returned this (hence, 4 stars) but stuck with it & am so glad I did. In addition to an interesting plot, I enjoyed the nuggets of life wisdom thrown in. This book would make a great limited series.

Historia
In a Tokyo suburb, a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife’s missing cat—and then for his wife as well—in a netherworld beneath the city’s placid surface. As these searches intersect, he encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists. Gripping, prophetic, and suffused with comedy and menace, this is one of Haruki Murakami’s most acclaimed and beloved novels.

This won't be my last Murakami book
Revisado: 10-02-23
As I listened to this book, I envisioned a limited film series directed by someone like Tarantino. It was interesting; it made me think. I'm still thinking after completing the novel. Contrary to some other reviews, I thought that Rupert Degas did an admirable job in narration. Was it perfect? No, but if it wasn't for his narration, I don't think I would have finished the book if I was literally reading it. I'm not a fast reader; hence, the Audibles. I am now in the Murakami Rabbit Hole, or should I say Rabbit Well.....

Best-selling author Joe McGinniss chronicles every aspect of this horrifying and intricate crime and probes the life and psyche of the magnetic, all-American Jeffrey MacDonald, a golden boy who seemed destined to have it all.

Expect to methodically examine the evidence in the Jeffrey MacDonald crime case that began on February 17, 1970. I highly enjoyed this. It was also interesting to learn about the author's repercussions from writing this book.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Quirky Love
Revisado: 02-20-23
I loved this book. I needed an escape & this book didn't disappoint. Maybe a little predictable, but who cares. Sometimes you just want to lose yourself in a book & enjoy the story. Character development was exceptional. My only disappointment is that Audible doesn't have another title authored by Shelby Van Pelt.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Stephen King's Next Movie?
Revisado: 10-22-22
Listening to a suspenseful/horror book is a Halloween tradition for me. I was a little lukewarm on the fairy tale premise, but this novel drew me in so much that I powered through this in a week. The narration was absolutely superb - 10+ stars. The book was so descriptive that it was easy to envision & I would love to see it in movie format also.

Generational Tale Mixed with a Little Horror
Revisado: 08-04-22
I loved this book. For me, it was pure immersive escapism. Interesting family dynamics. Each family member was a fully developed character who remained a little elusive. A descriptive novel - I felt like I was listening to a streaming limited series. The narrator was wonderful. This is a book that will stay with me for a long time.

Escapism
Revisado: 05-31-22
This little story provided me a lovely escape, accompanying a young boy and his two cherished dogs. While a tad predictable, following a young child's determination and freedom to pursue the old tradition of racoon hunting was very interesting. This is definitely a book that I will always regard fondly and remember it as a perfect gift for the right occasion. The narrator is excellent.

Where was the Editor??
Revisado: 01-13-22
Written with a backdrop of the Great Depression, This Tender Land reminded me a lot of one of my favorite novels, The Grapes of Wrath. Unfortunately, this novel broke character and betrayed an otherwise beautifully written period piece by including present day political correctness. I sincerely doubt that a 13-year-old boy in the 1930s would express White Guilt. Irregardless, Scott Brick's narration was superb, and the rest of the book was wonderful.

Historia
The daughter of one of New York's most influential families, niece of Theodore Roosevelt, and wife of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt witnessed some of the most remarkable decades in modern history, as America transitioned from the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era, and the Depression to World War II and the Cold War. A champion of the downtrodden, Eleanor drew on her experience and used her role as First Lady to help those in need.

Wrong Casting for Narrator
Revisado: 04-16-21
This autobiography was really interesting. It is mainly focused on Eleanor's political life. Eleanor guards against discussing any real feelings concerning her personal life. Nevertheless, I enjoyed learning about this remarkable woman's journey from an uncertain child to confidant and visionary leader concerning social and political ideals. She was an amazing woman.
My main disconnect with this audible rendition is the choice of narrator. While the narrator has a lovely youngish voice, this is a memoir written by an elderly woman. A mature narrator would have been far more effective.

Revisado: 08-14-18
This was totally a fun listen, but it left me with a foundational plot question - why? The story line just doesn't substantiate how a newlywed couple could travel this path.
