Historia
"I'm going to die a hundred years before I was born...." The handwritten note was in a dusty trunk that sat in a cave untouched for 150 years. What did the words mean? When journalist Ray Burton finds the trunk near the Arizona ghost town of Hollow Rock, his life changes in an instant. Something in the trunk shouldn’t be there. This begins a dangerous journey of discovery bordering on the impossible. A discovery that will affect the past, the present, and the future.

Interesting take on time travel stories
Revisado: 04-28-24
The writing is very simple. Short simple sentences. That’s not really a problem, but when combined with a narrator who speaks like a computer, it’s distracting. The narrator is not a native English speaker. He speaks great English, but his emphasis is all wrong and he ignores punctuation. I checked to see if I had adjusted the playback speed to 1.5, but it’s just the narrator. I know this is a series but I probably won’t be listening to any of the others because of the narrator.

Historia
Craig Ferguson has defied the odds his entire life. He has failed when he should have succeeded and succeeded when he should have failed. The fact that he is neither dead nor in a locked facility (at the time of printing) is something of a miracle in itself. In Craig’s candid and revealing memoir, listeners will get a look into the mind and recollections of the unique and twisted Scottish American who became a national hero for pioneering the world’s first TV robot skeleton sidekick and reviving two dudes in a horse suit dancing as a form of entertainment.

I am a fan of his Late Late Show, and have not read his other books. I really liked Elephant. It’s thoughtful and intelligent and honest in a way I haven’t heard in awhile. A good read.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Revisado: 06-20-21
The story is excellent, but Ray Porter’s narration makes this book come to life. What a fantastic performance. Great writing as always from Andy Weir. Now I’m looking for more Ray Porter narrations.

He was a gentle dreamer whose genial bearded visage was recognized around the world, but most people got to know him only through the iconic characters born of his fertile imagination: Kermit the Frog, Bert and Ernie, Miss Piggy, Big Bird. The Muppets made Jim Henson a household name, but they were just part of his remarkable story.

It’s a Wonderful Life
Revisado: 08-10-20
Good job. This book could have gone to far in several different directions, but did not. While showing the human-ness of the subject, the writer gives us enough personal detail to get a good sense of who Mr Henson was and why he did what he did. And the author avoids the trap of getting overly sappy in the telling of a story that lends itself to the maudlin. Excellent narration with decent voice characterizations. I really liked it.

In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

Well written, thorough, and scary as hell
Revisado: 07-15-20
At times I thought of Chance the Gardner from Jerzy Kosinsk’s short story Being There. Peter Sellers portrayed the character perfectly in the movie of the same name. But Trump’s story is not just about being there, it is a story of monumental dysfunction and deceit, dishonesty and manipulation, and in the end, the story of a pitiful person. This is an excellent explanation of how Donald Trump came to be.

I love time travel stories, and although this is not precisely a time travel book, it sorta is, in much the same way as Paris Time Capsule. This book is extremely well-written and narrated. That's all you really need to know. Start listening.

Great story; rethink the male narrator
Revisado: 11-07-18
I like Molly Harper's books, and this series is no exception. One reason her audiobooks are so well received is Amanda Ronconi. She's good. Really good. The introduction of another voice might be OK, but I don't think Mr. Davis is a good counterpoint or a good blend with Ms. Ronconi. It's just not working for me.

Well, this was completely unexpected. I downloaded it because I had finished a great book and didn’t have another one ready. This was just the right thing to get a smile on my face and get me over that little sadness I get when I reach the end of a good book. Thanks for this Christmas Cookie! Um...could I have just one more?

Charley sees dead people. That's right, she sees dead people. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

Funny, Interesting, An Easy Listen
Revisado: 10-02-12
What did you love best about First Grave on the Right?
I love the attitude and the voice of Charley Davidson. She's bright, witty and the kind of person you want to, well, just hang out with. Daryna Jones has a light narrative style that makes my long daily commute almost a pleasure.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Charley is a really interesting character, but it's Lorelei King's incredible ability to tell a story that made this audiobook for me. Lorelei King is my favorite character, I think, but doesn't that also make Charley my fav? Why is life so hard!
Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. I'm obviously a fan. I decided to try this book/series because of her and because of the subject matter. I knew Lorelei King would infuse interest and life into any book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh--yes. Cry--no.
Any additional comments?
I have already started the next one. I seem to get hooked on series...and I am definitely hooked on Charley Davidson, Lorelei King, and Darynda Jones.

Historia
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

A Great Part Two, Anxiously Awaiting Part Three
Revisado: 09-26-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Shadow of Night to be better than the print version?
I had the interesting experience of listening and reading at the same time. This "hybrid" method is captivating. I found myself listening to a few chapters in the car, then going back later and reading the chapters while listening again. Amazing experience!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Actually, I think my favorite character from both books is The Bishop House.
What does Jennifer Ikeda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her voice quality seems to fit the book. Hard to explain, but she brings real life to these words, and I can't imagine anyone else narrating these books. When I read or re-read passages I hear her voice in my head.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, I just like it a lot.
Any additional comments?
I love time travel stories, vampire stories, and I'm a European history junkie, So these books are tailor made for me. Ms. Harkness weaves an intricate and compelling story. Part three, please.
