I was directed to this book by Dana Perino from her podcast. I purchased it in Audible and enjoyed every essay. Truly a man who deserved all the respect given to him, and yes… we miss his wisdom and his ability the express it.
RIP Mr. Charles.

Overall a good story but the details of calculated money, wagon loads, weights, and time were excessive to the point of eye rolling, but this is only my personal opinion. I'm about ready for Bud to hook up with some sweet gal offering a ring. Maybe in the last book. We’ll see.
The death of the rounder was welcomed especially due to the way he treated humans and equine beasts. That, opening up the possibilities for Bud’s being the star of the rest of the story, was a relief.
Still, I will recommend the book as a good read, mostly to those in the farming and/or cattle business.

Of the 7 stories in the Little Britches set, this was our least favorite. There was not enough variety in the chapters and we tired of Lonny. Still, it was ok, but I’m just being honest here. Anxious now for book 7.

This was the 5th Ralph Moody we listened to over two weeks. I remember the first book being read to my 5th grade class back in 1958, and remembering, was anxious to hear the stories again. Ralph did a good job describing the personalities of each character as well as the story’s settings. Each chapter of each book was a joy to experience. I had a little trouble understanding some of the reading because of the accents ascribed to some of the characters. “Stir ya stivers, Boy” became a favorite admonition by Grandpa. I may try to resurrect that idiom in my own circles!😉👍

When I was in 5th-grade, our teacher, Mrs. Bates, read to us from this book. I've remembered parts of it all these years, and when I get near Denver, I remember again: which is what happened this weekend. We were up north in Colorado and after thinking of it once again, I bought it from Audible. My wife and I listened to the story the last three hours of our drive home to Texas yesterday. We finished it at home tonight, and I felt the story’s same entertaining attributes I enjoyed in 1959.
