Great to listen to Victoria Holt’s wonderful novels, the latest being Mistress of Mellyn. I’m so very pleased that Audible is making her work available once more and I am looking forward to continued listening of her historical tales of love and mystery. Thanks for making it possible to enjoy this magical and entertaining escape.

Davina Porter is synonymous with the St. Cyr saga and “ What The Devil Knows” doesn’t disappoint.
However, I am saddened that Davina Porter is being replaced by Jenny Sterlin performing,” When Blood Lies”. Impossible to contemplate, having listened to samples of Jenny Sterlin’s voice. I’m so disappointed but I have decided to pre order a hard copy, rather than be unhappy with the Audible effort.
Books 1-16 will remain cherished listens and I shall continue to enjoy them.

Mrs. Muir and the Captain are old friends. The novel is a polished gem. Don’t expect sound and fury, rather enjoy the quiet unfolding of a charming, loving relationship between individuals whose love transcends time and space.
I’m not a linguist but the reader sounded more like an American from the Deep South than an Englishwoman. Small complaint because this niche novel deserves to be heard.

Light escapism not meant to be examined closely but a funny and satisfying listen as we follow the misadventures of Verity, the lovable heroine and her motley menagerie especially Pretty Polly.

The reader's Deep South United States accent intruded too often which might be more annoying in a serious listen. Still too much of an unnecessary distraction.

I want to be Veronica Speedwell. But since that will never happen in this lifetime I look forward to following more of her adventures January 2017. This breathlessly intrepid heroine and her handsome, flawed partner are a force of nature. An enjoyable romp. Just read or listen and be entertained!!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

EDITING!!!!!! And even then that is a big maybe.

Has The Witching Hour turned you off from other books in this genre?

No.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kate Reading?

Kate Reading is a good reader but the narrative is so bad that no one could redeem it.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Witching Hour?

Unlike the author I don't have enough space to even begin. A general observation: found writing repetitive with too much information that did not propel the story forward. Became very boring and tedious.

Any additional comments?

Would not be in the least interested in completing the trilogy.
