Historia
Between 1861 and 1865, the clash of the greatest armies the Western hemisphere had ever seen turned small towns, little-known streams, and obscure meadows in the American countryside into names we will always remember. In those great battles, those streams ran red with blood-and the United States was truly born.

Just finished this course up for the 4th of July. It was really interesting and the professor was good at explaining the facts in a fun way. I wish he had gone into the Lost Cause myth and the Reconstructed period more, but he fairly pointed out that those topic deserve their own in-depth courses.

Historia
The six Herdman children are “absolutely the worst kids in the history of the world”. They lie and steal and smoke cigars. They even burned down Fred Shoemaker’s old toolhouse. Now they’re taking over the Christmas pageant. The Herdmans have never heard the Christmas story before, and they don’t know anything about shepherds or Wise Men. When Imogene hears about the swaddling clothes, she demands to know why anyone would tie up a baby and put him in a feedbox.

Favorite Piece of Christian Literature
Revisado: 12-18-21
I love this book. I listen to it ever year at Christmas time. C.J. Critt does one of the most perfect narration jobs I’ve ever heard. The subject matter really hits close to home. Written in 1972, it really is a commentary on how a middle class church of the time views it’s self and the poor in their community. I doubt the author was meaning for it to be a commentary, which, I think, makes it even read more true. And, though the language used to describe overweight people is outdated, and frankly mean, this is my favorite piece of Christian literature. I tear up every year, and there is a great lesson to be learned.

Disney did it 100x better.
Revisado: 05-14-21
So, I was pretty pumped to listen to this. I had saved it for a long week, where I was burnt out. I love the Disney movie, I love the classic books Treasure Island and Huckleberry Finn, I love books on rebuilding society (like all the zombie books & movies I'm into), and I love Gilligan's Island; so I thought this book would be a mix of all those things. I was wrong. This book was trash. It broke my heart. This book is nothing but a Trojan Horse to give children garbage science lessons with roundabout Sunday school speak. Everything works out perfect for the family. Not one hardship. They discover planets and animals from 6 continents on this tiny sandy island. All the children are annoying to a severe degree, while the father and the lazy son can practice every Victorian trade without fail because they have read a lot of books. Also, not one pirate. Not. One. Thanks Disney, thanks for doing that to me. Garbage. One star.

Historia
Beginning students in Japanese martial arts, such as karate, judo, aikido, iaido, kyudo, and kendo, learn that when they are in the dojo (the practice space), they must don their practice garb with ritual precision, address their teacher and senior students in a specific way, and follow certain unwritten but deeply held codes of behavior. But very soon they begin to wonder about the meaning behind the traditions, gear, and relationships in the dojo.

Author seem bitter.
Revisado: 09-07-20
This book was a bit of a disappointment; it seemed half text book and half a old man screaming “get off my lawn”. Though there was good information in there, it all came with a hum of bitterness behind everything as the author longed for the “good old days”, even as he condemn other people for doing the same. Much like how he builds himself up and bashes people for sound practices he does not think is proper, all while saying having a big ego is bad. I did not understand his desire he have Martial Arts teachers to hold to tradition and starve, over evolving so they can stay open to continue to bring these arts to the world while also being able to provide for their families.

Historia
Twelve billionaires rule the United States, while those called freemen are forced to serve the rich. But that was 60 years ago, before the Scarlet Plague. In this post-apocalyptic novella, a ragged and tattered old man tells his progeny of what life was like before The Scarlet Plague appeared - and wiped out civilization as they knew it.

London's Best
Revisado: 02-07-20
This under the radar classic is superb and is what I believe to be London's best work. Taking place in 2073 but published in 1912, it is wondrous to see the version of our upcoming decades from the point of view form someone at the turn of the 20th century. The apocalypse starts in the 20teens, the main character, now an old man, describes the fall of humanity as he lived through it. Laying the ground walk for books such as Lord of the Flies, The Stand, and The Walking Dead, and just under 2 and a half hours long, this book is now on my relisten to list and will be reconsumed every few months. -Bold City Matt

The essential elements for building a world. Roleplaying games and fantasy fiction are filled with rich and fascinating worlds: the Forgotten Realms, Glorantha, Narnia, R'lyeh, Middle-earth, Barsoom, and so many more. It took startling leaps of imagination as well as careful thought and planning to create places like these: places that readers and players want to come back to again and again.

Great for building a strong foundation.
Revisado: 11-13-17

Kobold Guide to Worldbuilding helps you consider details and situations that might not seem important at the beginning of your project, but may become tools for your players or characters to use upon later development of the story, such as; neighboring political systems and interactions, geography and the weather is creates, trade goods and local economies, and how magic or technology may change and interact with these systems. If you have a project in the works, this book is totally worth your time. Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry
