The only thing worse than a book in present tense is a book in first person present tense. The heroine seemed more eighteen than thirty-three, but I made it through.

I wanted to shake the heroine for being such a hypocritical, sanctimonious twit. It was hard to imagine what Bryght could possibly see in her. Hopefully the next in the series will be more refreshing.

The author did a lovely job with character development and parts actually made me laugh out loud. Perhaps some bits were a tad far fetched but isn’t that the point of this kind of fiction? All in all a delightful story with some steamy bits, humor, and depth.

I see why this one is free. If you are helping to break down a society you WOULD promote this anti-Christian, homosexual abuse of a minor, anti-family, communist sympathizing garbage.

Literature in present tense hurts my ears. Couldn’t make it past the feminist reference in the first two minutes.

This audiobook started out exciting. There seemed to be a good mystery with some unexpected twists. Then it descended into hours of liberal propaganda, male bashing, and southern stereotypes. I stuck with it hoping the mystery would come back to the forefront, but it fizzled and was a dud.

What would have made Year One better?

I love a good fantasy, but this book went from promising to inane in a hurry. I quickly tired of the NY millennial characters with no skills beyond witchcraft and sex. The constant apologizing for guns in the book was distracting. The characters all found weapons necessary for their survival but then wanted to get rid of them (or at least take them for the folks who weren't in charge) as soon as possible. I also couldn't take the repeated shock and disgust expressed by the characters when they might need to *gasp* kill a deer or rabbit to eat.

What could Nora Roberts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I simply could not relate to the characters. Except Fred. I liked Fred.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The setting moved from NY, to OH, to PA, but all the bigoted "bad guys" had southern accents. I did not appreciate the stereotype.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I managed to make it to nearly the end, but really have no interest in finishing it. I feel like I have been listening to them "play house" and try to set up some Utopian society for the last three hours.

Where's the plot?

The narrator is great, but that's about all I have to say for this book. After listening to part 1, I was so bored, I decided to clean the house. I don't care about the characters and the story is plodding. Wish I'd not wasted a credit.
