interesting story but meh execution
Revisado: 01-20-22
this series so far is good but also incredibly annoying. The subject matter and situations in the book make it seem like an adult book but the characters and interactions between them give the distinct impression of a lame teen soap opera. I really want to like the book for the story being told, but I can't help but to grit my teeth/ roll my eyes whenever Frischa has a line or when another female character is introduced. the pointless frivolity makes it difficult for me to determine who is a main character and who is just a main side charachter, or even to care about them. So far Reskin appears to be the only character of any import (duh. he is the protagonist) but there are a LOT of people in this story and a lot going on. I feel there should be someone/thing else to round out the story. And the overall annoying effect is punctuated by the voice acting. I like nick podehl; he has a smooth steady and distinct voice, able to do many voices... but this just ain't it. probably his worst performance Ive witnessed (not terrible but just annoying) right now Id say I hate this book but also I like it and want to see where it goes. and actually I hope it gets better- regarding the ridiculously weak character building. But if anyone actually sees this really long review, I suggest you give it a listen and decide for yourself

Revisado: 09-25-21
I was worried about this one not being as good as the first 3, but Im glad to see I was very wrong. Only complaint I have is that I wish they were longer b.c I love the characters, and the story always has me on the edge of my seat! Can't wait for the next one to come out, and I seriously hope that this will be an ongoing series with many books. These books were my introduction to Matt Dinniman and Im very impressed with his descriptive writing style and creative stories. I also listened to Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon while waiting for book 4, although it wasn't as "colourful" as the DCC books, the story haunted me for many days (In a good way)... clearly a novel but again, I wish there were more. Please read his writing and share in the pain!

One bubble. Four castles. Fifteen days. Capture each one, and the stairwell is unlocked. Here's the thing. It's never easy. Carl and his team can't go it alone. Not this time. They must rely on the help of the low-level, I-can't-believe-these-idiots-are-still-alive crawlers trapped in the bubble with them. But can they be trusted?

Historia
When Rin aced the Keju - the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academies - it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldn’t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rin’s guardians, who believed they’d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegard - the most elite military school in Nikan - was even more surprising.

very good book
Revisado: 08-28-20
I found this book to be very captivating and unexpected. I would describe it as a historical fiction fantasy and I love the Chinese folklore hints, though it is a bit more grim than I thought it would be (foolish b.c it's set during a war). The serious effect is somewhat ruined by the narrator, which is where my only complaints with this audiobook lies: I just don't like her very much. She's got a nice clear voice but she is about 4 out of 10 in modulating her volume and giving characters distinct voices- especially males (for which she's got about 3 for all of them. And most of the characters are male). There will be times when her voice gets very quiet to normal to painfully loud and/or shrill...so shrill.. all in 1 conversation. It's quite frustrating, but I'll put up with it for this story. And b.c there's no other option lol

Historia
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, listeners can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire.

Love it!
Revisado: 08-21-20
I sincerely hope the author does this again for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (not so much New Moon for obvious reasons) this wonderful perspective gave me a fresh and somewhat unexpected insight into the world I love so much. Upon completion, I immediately googled if Meyer was going to revisit Edwards eyes... and she said no in such a final way that utterly crushed my hopes (but I can't help the sliver that lives on lol). I also enjoyed this passionate -if slightly overly angry performance. Abel has just made my short list of exceptional audio performers with this story. This book is a 10 out of 10 for me.

Historia
Of all the women you know, how many of them would you describe as "a lady"? Naturally, you know women who are kind and intelligent, witty and resourceful; but a lady is an altogether different variety of female. She's mindful of the effect she has on those around her, and she's careful not to let her words or appearance betray her true intentions. How to Be a Lady is a charming reminder of what it takes to be an exemplary woman - someone who knows how to breeze through an awkward conversation with poise, or delicately sidestep the beauty salon gossip.

more useful to a modern monarch
Revisado: 08-05-20
Most of this book is useless to the every day lady. I enjoyed this book and I plan on following it's advice but I can't give it more than 3 stars b.c so much doesn't apply to me (or anyone I know). As well as the fact that so much wasn't explained. For example, "a lady knows how to address a senior authority figure, she know that meeting such a person calls for more respect than meeting a peer..." And just moves on w.o giving more of an explanation or example. But will explain the reasoning or etiquette behind leaving a theatre during a coughing fit. This book would be more fitting for me if I were a Dutchess, but I'm just a 23 year old woman looking for a guide to politeness and etiquette to improve the quality of my life and relationships. I'm going to have to keep searching, but this was a nice preview. I hope it will be more helpful to others!

I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did
Revisado: 07-01-20
I love this book. Even though the protagonist could be frustratingly naive at times, this was such a great read that I'm happy I stumbled upon. I was looking for a scary book when I found this and it did indeed give me the creeps. The character development and story telling was very nicely done: I cared for the characters, even the bitches. The drama kept things interesting, the creep factor made it impossible to put down and the performance was surprisingly good. I finished it in 1 day, including a nap (which I made my cat keep me company for) and I cried at the end :') I definitely recommend this story.
