Historia
When we think about the future of war, the military and Washington and most everyone gets it backwards. We think in terms of buying single military systems, such as fighter jets or aircraft carriers. And when we think about modernizing those systems, we think about buying better versions of the same things. But what really matters is not the single system but "the battle network"—the collection of sensors and shooters that enables a military to find an enemy system, target it, and attack it.

Excellent commentary on Defese Spending
Revisado: 08-08-20
Christian Brose's book "The Kill Chain" is an interesting review of the Military-Industrial Complex and how it spends money. The book is well thought out and Brose does a good job of reading. Unfortunately, it loses a little luster with the obligatory send-up of Orange Man Bad. I expected it from McCain's COS. I do recomment the book.

Historia
In November 1943, while on war patrol in the Makassar Strait, the USS Billfish submarine was spotted by the Japanese, who launched a vicious depth-charge attack. Explosions wracked the sub for 15 straight hours. With his senior officers incapacitated, diving officer Charlie Rush boldly assumed command and led key members of the crew in a heroic effort to keep their ship intact as they tried to escape.

Junior Officer Takes the Con
Revisado: 10-16-17
Sometimes the answer to the most difficult problem is the most obvious. Why were the Japanese ASW ships always on top of the Billfish. They had to know they were there, but how. Don Keith's excellently written and spoken book brings to life a most harrowing story of survival, courage, stamina, and commitment. This crew was not going to loose the boat. Lessons learned here can be applied today. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended.

C.J. Box at his best
Revisado: 09-12-17
Although a rather short story lasting some 8 hours, C.J. Box produces excellent fiction. His character development is good. The story line becomes a little far fetched at times but always remains exciting. I enjoyed the book.

Historia
There are few moments in American history in which the course of events tipped so suddenly and so dramatically as at the Battle of Midway. At dawn of June 4, 1942, a rampaging Japanese navy ruled the Pacific. By sunset, their vaunted carrier force (the Kido Butai) had been sunk and their grip on the Pacific had been loosened forever. In this absolutely riveting account of a key moment in the history of World War II, one of America's leading naval historians, Craig L. Symonds, paints an unforgettable portrait of ingenuity, courage, and sacrifice.

Absolutely one of the best.....
Revisado: 08-10-17
The Battle of Midway by Craig Symonds is, in my opinion, one of the best compilations of the history of the battle. His writing style is excellent and keeps the readers attention. I've read several books about the battle of Midway and this one is excellent. From the opening paragraphs to the extremely interesting summary of the lives of the combatants following the battle it is a great read.

Complex story line, excellent character developmen
Revisado: 11-17-15
This may not be the book for a commuter, especially if you're driving. The book requires your complete attention. Several times I had to rewind to a place I remembered and then restart. It's a complex plot with several story lines all intertwined. Highly recommended.

Historia
On the killing ground that was the island of Guadalcanal, a 2,000-yard-long ridge rose from the jungle canopy. Behind it lay the all-important air base of Henderson Field. And if Henderson Field fell, it would mean the almost certain death or capture of all 12,500 marines on the island. But the marines positioned on the ridge were no normal fighters - they were the hard-fighting men of Edson's Raiders, an elite fighting unit within an already elite Marine Corps.

Historia
In June 1944, the attention of the nation was riveted on the events unfolding in France. But in the Pacific, the Battle of Saipan was of extreme strategic importance. D-Day in the Pacific: The Battle of Saipan is a gripping account of one of the most dramatic engagements of World War II. The conquest of Saipan and the neighboring island of Tinian was a turning point in the war in the Pacific, making the American victory against Japan inevitable.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Revisado: 08-05-15
Probably one of the best books I've ever listened too. If you have even a little interest in science, si-fi, adventure, drama, this is the book for you. It is one of the best first novels by an author I've read. "Girl on the Train" being the other. This book is more than a science fiction book. Much more.
Andy Weir has written a wonderful entertaining, exciting book.
I highly recommend it.

Historia
Here is a gripping account of the major postwar trial of the Nazi hierarchy in World War II. The Nuremberg Trial brilliantly recreates the trial proceedings and offers a reasoned, often profound examination of the processes that created international law. From the whimpering of Kaltenbrunner and Ribbentrop on the stand to the icy coolness of Goering, each participant is vividly drawn.

Teriffic historical accounting of the Trial
Revisado: 07-19-15
This book is more for the historically inquisitive or scholar. It's not a novel, but is quite compelling and interesting. The authors do extensive research and character development of each defendant.
From the putting together of the tribunal, to the executions, it is a fascinating tale.
Coshams narration is compelling.
