Historia
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Juvenile Story For Juvenile Listeners
Revisado: 01-12-25
I took a chance on this one despite other reviews warning me away. I should have listened. I “finished” the book by letting it play while I wasn’t listening. Could have been a good story if the author hadn’t filled it with frat house “humor”. Skip this series.

Historia
Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

Sounds like a 1940s gangster story
Revisado: 12-18-24
The narrator sounded like he was reading a story set in the 40s. That made it difficult to place the timeline of the story. That was distracting from the story. Overall, not what I was expecting. It was also a little predictable about halfway through and unrealistic at the end.

Narration needs work
Revisado: 12-01-24
It was obvious that portions of the book were re-recorded as the volume and tone of one or two sentences wouldn’t match those before and after. Seems quality wasn’t the focus. Story was predictable and ruined by offensive depictions of women.

Stryker is a young and beautiful agent who’s struggling to recover from a job gone bad, while Burke is a straight-laced analyst who’s pissed off all his colleagues. When a raid on Chinese spies in Taiwan ends in a shootout, CIA Director Cooke turns to the Red Cell to figure out why China is ready to invade the island nation without any fear of reprisal.

Good story but terrible narration and editing
Revisado: 01-13-24
Other reviews have said this, but it is worth repeating. The story was good but nearly ruined by the narrator. Almost monotone, except for oddly emphasizing a word out of place. Very few pauses, even between sentences and paragraphs, it was like listening to a 30 minute run on sentence. This made it difficult to follow when the location changed and different characters were speaking. Editing didn’t catch or fix these issues or even out different recordings. It felt like the audiobook was an afterthought. Very unfortunate.

Historia
All the world is a puzzle, and Mike Brink—a celebrated and ingenious puzzle constructor—understands its patterns like no one else. Once a promising Midwestern football star, Brink was transformed by a traumatic brain injury that caused a rare medical condition: acquired savant syndrome. The injury left him with a mental superpower—he can solve puzzles in ways ordinary people can’t. But it also left him deeply isolated, unable to fully connect with other people.

Interesting until near the end
Revisado: 01-04-24
I was drawn into this story quickly and enjoyed it until the last few chapters. It started to get a little too “out there” for my taste. A different direction and this would have been a great book.

Rosenberg’s books are great, but don’t start with this one
Revisado: 02-03-21
I have enjoyed Joel Rosenberg’s books for years but never read his first series. This book is a little slow at first, there is action from the start but doesn’t engage you. Park of that might have been the performance. If you are already a fan, you will enjoy this book; if not start with a different series.

Weak storyline ruined by horrible narration
Revisado: 12-24-19
The story is basic and predictable. Taken by itself the story would be ok, not great but a quick, easy read. Unfortunately the narration was so bad it was distracting. The reader was monotone for the majority of the book. Even the engineering seemed off because volume would change from sentence to sentence, occasionally there was an echo effect like she was in a tunnel. Skip the audiobook and get the Ebook instead.

Great, except for the songs
Revisado: 11-21-18
One of my favorite books, I’ve read it many times. The narration is very good except for the songs. Rob’s voice is just off in nearly every one. Other than that five stars.
