Historia
This fictionalized portrait of Joyce's youth is one of the most vivid accounts of the growth from childhood to adulthood. Dublin at the turn of the century provides the backdrop as Stephen Dedalus moves from town and society, towards the irrevocable decision to leave. It was the decision made by Joyce himself which resulted in the mature novels of Ulysses and Finnegans Wake.

Phenomenal audiobook!
Revisado: 08-13-22
One of the greatest novels of all time, read expertly by Jim Norton. Norton appropriately and seemingly effortlessly changes tone between quoted passages and narrative. He has an experienced command of Irish accents.

Historia
Greek tragedy was a dramatic form that flourished for less than a full century. And yet it remains vibrant, alive, and productive today. And the form's masterpieces help us-as perhaps they helped their original audiences-grasp a fuller sense of the terror and wonder of life. Professor Vandiver has designed these 24 rich and rewarding lectures to give you a full overview of Greek tragedy, both in its original setting and as a lasting contribution to the artistic exploration of the human condition.

Greek Tragedy by Prof. Vandiver
Revisado: 05-13-22
Phenomenal series of lectures on all aspects of Greek Tragedy, a literary form that Professor Vandiver explains, with many examples and references to 5th century BC Greek, later Roman and succeeding literary forms, has had a profound impact on world literature over two and a half millennia. Professor Vandiver’s presentation of the material is comprehensive and engaging, and her enthusiasm for the art form is evident in every word she speaks. Must-listen lecture series for all actors, playwrights, theater-goers and anyone else who loves a good story. John Enrico Douglas

These 24 lectures are a vibrant introduction to the primary characters and most important stories of classical Greek and Roman mythology. Among those you'll investigate are the accounts of the creation of the world in Hesiod's Theogony and Ovid's Metamorphoses; the gods Zeus, Apollo, Demeter, Persephone, Hermes, Dionysos, and Aphrodite; the Greek heroes, Theseus and Heracles (Hercules in the Roman version); and the most famous of all classical myths, the Trojan War.

Professor Vandiver is the best
Revisado: 04-29-22
I have listened multiple times to Professor Vandiver’s lecture series on mythology, the Greek tragedies, ancient literature, the Homeric epics and the Aeneid. She carefully examines the subjects she treats, considering multiple scholarly analyses of ancient literature. Consistently with the yawning gaps in surviving works of literature and the limits of archeological/historical evidence, Prof. Vandiver avoids sweeping generalizations. She approaches her subjects with reason and objectivity, while demonstrating a prodigious knowledge and understanding of ancient literature itself and important individual scholars and schools of interpretation of such literature.

Historia
Highly acclaimed author Ursula K. Le Guin lends a resonant voice to a pivotal yet often overlooked character of Vergil's The Aeneid. Born into peace and freedom, Lavinia is stunned to learn that she will be the cause of a great war - or so the prophecies and omens claim. Her fate is sealed, however, when she meets a man from Troy.

Lavinia by Ursula Le Guin
Revisado: 04-14-22
Phenomenal novel. Imaginative and meticulously researched. I have read the book and twice listened in the following order to Audible editions of Prof. Elizabeth Vandiver’s lectures on The Aeneid, Robert Fagle’s translation of The Aeneid narrated and this wonderful audio production of Lavinia. Drive time is much better with audio books than being bombarded with so much bad news on the radio. Thanks. John Enrico Douglas
