Between Good and Evil is Where I Walk

Good book for police academy recruits
Revisado: 06-07-16
I was curious about the content being a retired police officer. The one thing that struck me right away is that this book should be read by academy cadets, if not required.
I was pleasantly surprised by the objective point of view and not a jaded rant. Great book and great narration!

Historia
This incredible story shows how John Douglas tracked and participated in the hunt for one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history. For 31 years a man who called himself BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) terrorized the city of Wichita, Kansas, sexually assaulting and strangling a series of women, taunting the police with frequent communications, and bragging about his crimes to local newspapers and TV stations.

Dis appointing performance
Revisado: 01-27-16
While the material was great, the performance was fraught with mispronunciations such as 'Quantico', 'reticence', and 'Dulles' just to name a few. Either the narrator hasn't heard of any of these words or the editor missed them; or both.

Way too esoteric and not very entertaining
Revisado: 07-28-14
What disappointed you about The Noble Hustle?
It was written with constant reference and analogy that I don't think the average listener could relate to and didn't seem to have an organized direction. Much like putting a hard copy book down, I had to stop listening because I couldn't enjoy how it was written and subsequently narrated.
Would you ever listen to anything by Colson Whitehead again?
If this book is any indication, most likely not.
How could the performance have been better?
Plain English with an organized flow and less, or no, vague analogies.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Noble Hustle?
Hard to say since I gave up on it less than an hour into it.
Any additional comments?
If I could get credit for it, I would delete it from my library which I may do, anyway.

Extremely poor narration; not very accurate
Revisado: 03-12-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book. It's unfortunate that whomever was responsible for picking the narrator picked someone who has no knowledge of the subject matter. The mispronunciation of names was numerous and it seemed that the narrator was nothing more than a reader. Perhaps the audio version should have been proofed.
The 'debates' were tilted heavily towards the author's opinions and many of his predictions, particularly those that would have been transpired between when the book was published and now, were wrong. A number of the predicitions for the future, whose time has not yet come, that the author made seem like very unlikely shots in the dark. It did not seem that the author has much knowledge in the business end of the sport..
Has Trading Paint turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
What didn’t you like about R. C. Bray’s performance?
He came off more as just a reader. His mispronunciations of names and places indicated that he had no knowledge, whatsoever, of the subject matter and that detracted heavily from the performance.
Was Trading Paint worth the listening time?
No

Before he became a novelist, Michael Connelly was a crime reporter, covering the detectives who worked the homicide beat in Florida and Los Angeles. In vivid, hard-hitting articles, Connelly leads the reader past the yellow police tape as he follows the investigators, the victims, their families and friends, and, of course, the killers, to tell the real stories of murder and its aftermath.

Repetitive
Revisado: 04-30-12
What would have made Crime Beat better?
This book does not progress well. The story line is repetitive and just seems to drag on and on without moving forward. I stopped listening after a couple of hours.
Has Crime Beat turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
Which character – as performed by Howard Samuel – was your favorite?
Don't remember
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrative performance was ok
