Good concept, rotten book

This might have been a good book.

According to Audible I have listened to 96 books. Never have I stopped listening because I could stand the production. For some reason the sound engineer allowed the narrator to read at high and low volume while reading within the same paragraph and/or conversation. Two characters would be talking. One read at extremely high volume and
to have the other respond in a way that couldn’t be heard. Then the story narrator would loudly continue with a voice that sounded as though he was calling a 1950 horse race. The story was interesting but I could finish it.

The narrative was difficult to understand at times. The character voices were poorly depicted. The book was very entertaining.
