Helpful in understanding what they went through
Revisado: 12-20-24
It's sad what they went through and disappointing but not surprising how our government treated them. It's important to know the truth.

Another great match up with Julie and Jane. I think Jane is one of the best narrators. I enjoy Julie's creativity and writing style. It's a book for youth but still enjoyable for adults too.

Over the past few years, Brianna Wiest has gained renown for her deeply moving, philosophical writing. This new compilation of her published work features pieces on why you should pursue purpose over passion, embrace negative thinking, see the wisdom in daily routine, and become aware of the cognitive biases that are creating the way you see your life. Some of these pieces have never been seen; others have been read by millions of people around the world. Regardless, each will leave you thinking: This idea changed my life.

Waste of time.
Revisado: 07-11-24
First the book starts out with a quote from Yuval Harai....an anti-God, anti-human, champion of communism.
"The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom" which is why this book has none. Sure, a broken clock is still right twice a day, so there are some regurgitated tidbits that are true...but nothing new here. Just because it's read in a soft tone, doesn't make it wisdom. It's still couched in an socially constructed belief system( one which has no actual evidence) as there is no such thing as neutral. For all of the talk about not being self-centered, that seems to be the main theme. Not sure if this writer is into New Age Philosophy or what...it sounds like it in many areas. Humanity with never dispense with religion...we only change what or whom we worship.

The Vision of the Anointed

Historia
In this devastating critique of the mindset behind the failed social policies of the past 30 years, Thomas Sowell sees what has happened not as a series of isolated mistakes, but as a logical consequence of a vision whose defects have led to disasters in education, crime, family disintegration, and more. This is an empirical study in which “politically correct” theory is repeatedly confronted with facts, and the sharp contradictions between the two are explained in terms of a set of self-congratulatory assumptions held by political and intellectual elites.

Another must read from Thomas Sowell
Revisado: 07-06-24
Tom brings the facts. Sadly, "the annointed" have doubled down and become as deranged as ever. We, the people need to remind ourselves that it is our government and our money and they work for us. The constitution was created to constrain government..and instead they keep expanding it, now to the point of saying that the citizens( who pay their salaries) are a threat. We don't need to wait for politicians to vote in term limits, we can enforce that ourselves with voting them out, especially the ones who've been there too long. We can also vote with our dollars and stop supporting organizations that undermine our freedoms. We can also do what Alexander Solzhenitsyn and others who survived communism recommend, which is telling the truth. We need to stop cow towing to this small group of bullies who tell us what we can or can't say etc. Instead we need to make them ashamed of their insane ideas. We can also turn off the "news" which are only there to promote propaganda and get both sides bickering with each other while they laugh all the way to the bank and continue to constrict our freedoms.
I'm grateful for people like Thomas Sowell who, even now in his 90's is fighting the good fight and trying to get people to really think and deal with reality.
The 20th century should have taught us where the "annointed's" thinking and operation goes.....ultimately the suffering and death of millions of people. This history is not taught in our schools, purposely...otherwise people would see what they're up to and I would hope, reject it.

Historia
Viktor E. Frankl was a medical doctor at a psychiatric hospital in 1942 when he became a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps in World War II. In 1946, he published this book about his camp experiences and a method of psychotherapy he developed. Forty-five years later, it was still named one of the most influential books in the United States. Part One describes his three years in four Nazi concentration camps, which took the lives of his wife, father, mother, and brother. He closely observed inmates’ reactions to their situation, as well as how survivors came to terms with their liberation.

A must read. Relevant today
Revisado: 05-10-24
This is just as relevant today as then. Our current society is still preoccupied with happiness as a goal and feelings being more important than reason and mediocrity as a value over bettering oneself. Victim culture, collective guilt and equity of outcomes are championed over personal responsibility, accountability and excellence. Not surprisingly, suicide and drug addiction have been on the rise.

Historia
A window is but a piece of glass through which we view the world outside. It is not meant to distort. It is not intended to do anything but show us things as they are. At Oxford, though, there is a very particular window that reveals a very particular view. It is a view that defies all laws of nature and science. And when a detective is called in to investigate, he is startled to find that view opens a window into his own life–and a mystery he has never been able to solve.
