Historia

The analysis of the human psyche and society through the in-depth exploration of the characters.
Revisado: 01-23-25
Overall, I liked the book very much (although it is not for everyone), but I feel that, in the end, the author could/should have made it clearer what the “Angel” character got out of the experience he went through and how it would affect his life strategy and decisions moving forward.

Historia
Some of the smartest commentary about what’s happening in America is coming from a comedian—this comedian being Bill Maher. If you want to understand what’s wrong with this country, it turns out that one of the best informed and most thought-provoking analysts is this very funny pothead.

Deep insights in the US culture in a comedic style
Revisado: 09-23-24
Great observations, a lot of jokes and puns, and the optimistic hope (in my view unrealistically optimistic) that we could/will somehow resolve the unfortunate state of mind most Americans are in as well as the deep issues and divisions it has created, and perhaps get America back to a state of greater unity resulting in a progressive dynamic (akin to something like the Kennedy years).
Unfortunately, he fails to consider the (realistic) possibility that what is going on in America today (and to be fair the rest of the world) is not just a temporary setback that will somehow be overcome en route towards an ever better (perhaps utopic) future, but a consequence of the inherent mediocrity of humanity and its inability to reliably learn from our history and progressively shed the tribal, selfish ( some say reptilian) makeup that humanity started with and (again to be fair) was one of the initial reasons for our success as a species.

Historia
Do you really understand what business value is? Information technology can and should deliver business value. But the Agile literature has paid scant attention to what business value means - and how to know whether or not you are delivering it. This problem becomes ever more critical as you push value delivery toward autonomous teams and away from requirements "tossed over the wall" by business stakeholders. An empowered team needs to understand its goal!

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

Very Provocative...
Revisado: 12-17-16
This work comes across as a philosophical analysis of the trajectory of the human species and is therefore very relevant to each and everyone of us as its members.
A few additional remarks:
First, to provide a basis for the discussion, it states a large number of scientific and historical facts pertaining to the human species and that is interesting in and of itself.
Second, it soberly dismisses what are still regarded as truths in our society ( e.g. Religions, nations, "human values") as interesting, colorful figments of our collective imagination.
Third, it provides interesting and realistic insights regarding what we might become in the not so distant future.
Finally, this book is primarily targeted to intellectuals (it is recommended by Obama) and will probably be dismissed by traditional or conservatively minded individuals.
