Historia
Join David as he encounters his eccentric Aunt Betsey, faithful Peggotty and the villainous Uriah Heep, and as he falls in love with Little Em'ly, Dora and Agnes. And then there is old school friend James Steerforth: dashing, daring and seductive. This dramatisation explores the complexities and intimacies of that relationship beyond anything possible in Dickens' day, in an adaptation giving fresh life and vividness to this beloved tale.

Wasn’t Dickens good enough?
Revisado: 02-10-24
Why couldn’t you let Dickens be Dickens? Why did you feel the need to add to the story? Several of the characters are changed. Some for the better, I felt like Edward Murdstone was given some depth and was excellently played by Armitage. I personally didn’t care for the way David himself was portrayed. But what I can’t forgive is changing a major element of the story for no reason. Or maybe there was a reason… but making David and Steerforths relationship not of a friendship but of a homosexual nature was a bastardization of the story. For me personally it ruined a story I love

Historia
Here are two bestselling novels which offer a great introduction to the Kings and Sorcerers series. Kings and Sorcerers tells the epic coming of age story of Kyra, 15, who dreams of becoming a famed warrior, like her father, though she is the only girl in a fort of boys. She struggles to understand her special skills and mysterious inner power, and comes to realize she is different than the others.

Close
Revisado: 04-26-22
So close to being really good. Rice created some really great characters, and a decent storyline so far. The first was definitely better than the second, however. I mean the second was literally a long string of cliff hangers without really advancing the story ark much at all. Here’s the thing that really bothers me though. I feel like with minimal effort these stories could be cleaned up too be pretty good. But repetition of the same phrases and descriptions, the excessive amount of ridiculous cliff hangers and some really major plot holes and obvious inconsistencies kind of make them hard to listen to at points. I feel like if Rice for some decent beta readers these could really be made decent. Oh well.
I thought Farrell was excellent

I’m sad
Revisado: 04-07-22
Ok
Guys I’m so sad. Like most you you all I feel in love with the maze runner. Dashner set the scene so well. I thought it had great plot line development and decent character development, extremely good cliff hanger ending. Two books later I feel like I’m still hanging off the cliff. Wishing I’d jumped to my death earlier. I cried more about the death of this series than over the demise of any of the characters (sorry Chuck) Here’s why.
Major spoiler alert
Ok so the biggest thing for me is the character development arc and resolution. Newt, who I fell in love with in Maze runner, is given one of the most pitiful and pointless deaths I have ever seen given to a supporting character. It’s awful. Like seriously his death adds zero to the story except to add to Thomas’s unresolved guilt and despair and emphasize the fact that the flare is bad. We got that with dudes eating each other lol. And the way he goes out. Dashner destroys a really great character I think everybody fell in love with.
Ok my biggest problem. The Teresa story arc. Ugh. Where do I start. How did we go from Thomas being desperately in love with her to hating her to the point he makes absolutely idiotic decisions just to spite her?? He stopped loving her because she sacrificed everything to save him?? Like I ended up detesting Thomas by the time I was finished. Thomas’s treatment of Teresa is just irrational and ridiculous and despicable. Honestly by the end I was wishing she was the hero we were following and Thomas croaked. Just everything with her and Thomas simply makes no sense. None. I can’t even describe how frustrated I was with the development of the relationship between the two. I feel like Dashner set it up so well and then ran it into the ground. It was sad to see.
Ok enough ranting. I could go on but I’m just getting worked up. Summary.
Loved maze runner.
scorch trials had its moments, maybe dragged a little bit moved the story forward in a serviceable enough way. Some interesting developments. Fine.
Death Cure. Well, we never got the cure. Just the death. Of the series. Incoherent plot, unsatisfying explanations, unanswered questions, character devolution, major plot holes, contradictory plot lines, majorly downer and anticlimactic ending. I appreciated the redemption of galley, but even that was half baked. And I ended up just wanting to punch Thomas the whole book. Not exactly what you want out of your hero. And Teresa… ugh. Not to get into it again, but I thought she was the best cheater and I feel like both Thomas and Dashner did her dirty.
Absolutely nothing against Deakins. I think he did an excellent job
