Love the sophistication of the analysis, the nuanced angles on mental illness, and the detailed depiction of family. Depth and humanity. Soooo good.

Honest, smart, poetic. The talent! This man may be a musician first but I’m not so sure. I think he may be a writer above all.

Bizarre combination of 2 stories —not reflective, not analytical . The book claims to be about GO ASK ALICE but that’s only half of it.

Compelling, compassionate, sophisticated, brilliant. One of my favorite books about therapy and mental illness—and I’ve read many.

Because Crean didn’t leave keep a journal and few letters survive there isn’t much new here other than a retelling of the various Antarctic journeys he played key roles in. He was important to these expeditions but they are told better by Cherry-Garrard, Shackleton and Scott’s biographers.

Moving story written by a poet. You will smell, taste, feel, hear this incredibly courageous journey. Highly recommend.

Stevenson is a superior reader of the classics but here she renders both French and American accents ridiculous. The story-telling is a bit overwrought even if the life, research and story are impressive,

Just speed up to 1.5! Way too slow. A bit repetível but that’s the point, non?

solid book but not perfect for listening. the narrative is too disjointed. works when reading, not listening. the narrator's whispery, over-articulated voice grates.
