Historia
We all wish we had more control. When our relationships are strained, when our bodies refuse to cooperate, when the future is uncertain, control promises security and peace. If only I were in charge, we dream. And this illusion seems more attainable than ever. Technology, science, medicine, and the internet all promise us ever-increasing mastery over our world. The problem is, control is a "devil's deal." The more we seek it, the more it betrays us. In place of predictability, it gives us anxiety. In place of certainty, it creates more complexity.

Must Read for Enneagram 8 Christians
Revisado: 08-29-22
Maybe you, like me, are an Enneagram 8 and wish that you weren't. You see the havoc that control and the lack of it has on your life and you are tired of being frustrated, anxious and exhausted.
You know that God has a plan for you-- that He made you, and made you THIS way but you aren't sure what he expects you to do with it.
Enter this book.
You might already know all the areas that control creeps into your life, but if you don't you'll learn them quick in these chapters. What this author does better is demonstrate to you exactly how to lay those things down. How do you reject false control? How do you relieve anxiety?
100% recommend. I wish there was an option to add a sixth star! This is one I'll come back to again and again.

Just Read Gifts of Imperfection by Brown
Revisado: 11-16-18
This was mostly a memoir, and didn’t resonate with me very well. If you’re looking to have the kind of transformation she describes then read Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.

Historia
Janet Lansbury is unique among parenting experts. As a RIE teacher and student of pioneering child specialist Magda Gerber, her advice is not based solely on formal studies and the research of others, but also on her twenty years of hands-on experience guiding hundreds of parents and their toddlers. No Bad Kids is a collection of Janet's most popular and widely read articles pertaining to common toddler behaviors and how respectful parenting practices can be applied to benefit both parents and children.

Okay, but Positive Discipline is better
Revisado: 12-07-17
I made it through about 1/3 of this book before returning. Beyond the obvious and distracting mistake of saying that the song “My favorite things” was from one of her favorite movies, Mary Poppins (it’s from Sound of Music), I didn’t like the judgmental attitude toward distraction as a toddler discipline tool. Treating children like they have all the same mature reasoning as an adult isn’t respectful so, while I agree you should always treat a child with respect, it seems silly to expect the same reasoning ability from a 14 month old that you would from a 25 year old. For this reason, I returned the book and will stick with Jane Nelson’s Positive Discipline.

What is "the big lie" of the Democratic Party? That conservatives - and President Donald Trump in particular - are fascists. Nazis, even. In a typical comment, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow says the Trump era is reminiscent of "what it was like when Hitler first became chancellor." But in fact, this audacious lie is a complete inversion of the truth. Yes, there is a fascist threat in America - but that threat is from the Left and the Democratic Party.

Agreed until final chapters

I don't know enough to disagree with his earlier conclusions and this was interesting and I did learn some things but I completely disagree with the conclusion that we should respond to progressivism with quid pro quo lawful but questionably moral actions.

Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

Transforming
Revisado: 07-26-17
I've been talking about this book for weeks. There are few books I've read that have really transformed my thinking and how I approach life- this is one of them. I highly recommend.
