Perfect Conclusion
Revisado: 05-04-25
Islington killed it with this conclusion to an incredible trilogy.
This trilogy is so underrated and hit so hard for a debut series. I cannot wait to see Islington does with his new series.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 04-21-25
I went into Veiled Throne with hesitant expectations due to numerous friends/reviews stating this is the "weakest" of the series, and I think this helped me appreciate this book more than I would have otherwise.
From a technical standpoint, Ken continues to be a master story teller weaving the intricate plots together, crafting such an incredibly well thought out world along with the magic and science to back up the decisions made, and is an absolute genius when it comes to characters.
What I was not expecting in this book (and what I am assuming threw most others as well) was the very intricate and detailed (and quite long) plot point of the cooking competition that takes up the majority of the 2nd half of this book.
Was it written badly? No. In fact, Ken put as much thought and detail into this as some of the war/fight scenes in other books and it truly shows his range.
Was it out of place? Also, somehow no. Ken found such a unique way of weaving the Blossom Gang's story into the overarching series.
Honestly, it felt like we put this epic story on pause for a holiday special that turned into a rather long side quest. I had a lot of fun with it, but I was also not expecting it whatsoever.
Overall, Ken Liu is still an incredible author and I am so excited about getting to Speaking Bones and his other works.

Incredible Start
Revisado: 04-17-25
I did not know what to expect when I picked up this book but somehow it still exceeded my expectations. From page one, Erikson shoved me into a roller coaster and told me to hang on. What followed was such an incredibly rich, mysterious, and some times jaw dropping world full of sooo many unique and interesting characters. With such a huge cast of characters here in book 1, it speaks volumes to Erikson's writing to be able to encapsulate such unique voices in soooo many of them.
While I did absolutely love the ride, Erikson does not hold your hand with the plot or the worldbuilding. So much of the time, you are spent lost in the sauce and are meant to trust the author to get you where you need to go and understand enough when you get there. While Erikson has spent so much of this book setting up the world and plot points (of which there are many), we don't get to truly find out about some of the inner workings of the world or magic or even it's people. We have so many different races discussed in this 700 page book, but I felt I knew little to nothing about them by the end. I almost would have enjoyed a few info dumps here and there just to breath a little more life into everyone surrounding our characters.
I am trusting that we will get more history and knowledge about the series as it continues and I am so very excited about picking up book 2.

Solid Series
Revisado: 04-06-25
This series continues to keep me hooked. Jordan continues with his very descriptive prose, but overall I really enjoyed Dragon Reborn mainly due to the vastly needed change in POVs from book 2 😅. Egwene's pov continues to be a blessing on this series. What i did not expect was how much I would enjoy Perrin and Mat's pov this book.
Overall, while this series has its problems, I am still having a lot of fun reading it.

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

I'm at a loss for words......that ending
Islington has shot up in my ranking of favorite authors. I have now read book 1 in Licanius and book 1 in Hierarchy and I love everything about his writing.
I get the obsession with needing book 2 in Hierarchy to drop because I could not even begin to spoil this book if I wanted to.
Do yourself a favor and go in blind. This book is incredible and I will now be going back to binge the rest of Licanius because I need more of Islington's writing.

Revisado: 02-28-25
Is this book incredibly slow paced? Yes
Are some of the MCs whiney and insufferable? Also yes
Was i hooked into this story beginning to end yelling at the book in rage, shock, horror, and glee? Again also yes
Jordan really let his creative juices flow with The Great Hunt. I thoroughly enjoyed book 1, but this was better. The characters (regardless of why I was yelling at them) always made me feel some type of emotion. The world building is insane and off the charts. The way Jordan pulls inspiration from different religions and mythologies across the world and time, coalesced incredibly. I am so excited to continue on and find out what happens next 👀👀
