I loved the amount of time that was dedicated to the possibilities of.. ok no spoilers. Not a typical thriller but gripping and twisty.

I may have preferred to read this rather than listen. The primary narrator must have recorded this without a producer because it was over the top. Generally it was great and she added a lot of interest, it wasn’t Hillary Huber aka the navigation system. The primary narrator actually shouts and screams, the audio quality crumbles due to her volume. Then there are the vocalizations… 😱 there were a lot of them. Will I give anything away if I say there is a woman in labor ? And- that the narrator actually brought it to life- a benefit of not watching a movie- especially with a birthing scene (always a woman screaming) is that you don’t have to hear all that. But no. It felt like hours maybe one or two and made me edgy af.

This was really good. Idk if another narrator would have made it so good. Enjoy!!!

Really enjoyed this short dynamic story. The voice acting is really good and each character was distinct

I would love to see this adapted on screen, there was a lot of imagery and stimuli. Narration was okay although idk if someone could have done it better. Scary and good!

I have to say this was pretty good. The voice actors were talented and did a great job but I was also impressed with the above average quality of the story, plot etc. Usually the thrillers with “Girl” in the title are let downs but this was not.

Enjoyable. Some elements of an “out of touch” older male author. Generally not terribly memorable but a good listen.

I loved it. I loved the guncle and the perfect notes of humor, heart warming and breaking moments and just something meaningful about life. Will read anything by this author!

I only purchased this book so I could listen to Stella Maris.
This is the first Cormac McCarthy book that I have been able to finish. I attribute that to the great narration, like they were translators for this pointless prose.
So- I should have just trusted the other reviewers, this was truly just a day’s worth of ramblings about philosophy and religion and I am left feeling depressed.
I found most of the discourse incredibly pretentious, it was also so obvious that it was just the thoughts of the author (how do two random degenerates have opinions based on Kant?)
This book is a reflection of an era I think we are all ready to move on from. Pointlessness, nihilism wrapped up in a sick tragedy that is not tragic- maybe a reflection of a time when McCarthy thrived- the 70s, and people didn’t know how else to be as opposed to how - we have therapists and positive psychology and generational wounds.
I was sick of this old white man not even half way through.
As for the sister, and her schizophrenia- is it really like that? Did he do any research or was this just the author’s fantasy of what it would be like to live with such a devastating illness?

Spoiler and trigger warning for sexual abuse:
The “southern gothic” romance was poorly executed. The age difference and her mental incapacity made it seem like abusive grooming. Gross.
