Nuanced and sophisticated analysis backed by data
Revisado: 06-23-24
This book was well researched and written and the narration was excellent. I’m a big fan of Mike Madrid, and this book is all I had hoped for and more.
He used data and stories to differentiate Latinos from different countries, backgrounds, generations, and experiences, and shows they are not a monolithic voting block that either party can count on.
The book offered a lot of food for thought and I hope it is widely read by democratic strategists.

More Guncle please.

I enjoyed this sequel every bit as much as I enjoyed the first book. It made me literally LOL, and I was on a plane while listening, and it also made me cry. I always appreciate a book that can do both.
I think Steven Rowley is as good of a narrator as he is an author, and think he did an excellent job at both with this book.

Historia
The Cuban Revolution took everything from sugar heiress Beatriz Perez - her family, her people, her country. Recruited by the CIA to infiltrate Fidel Castro's inner circle and pulled into the dangerous world of espionage, Beatriz is consumed by her quest for revenge and her desire to reclaim the life she lost. As the Cold War swells like a hurricane over the shores of the Florida Strait, Beatriz is caught between the clash of Cuban-American politics and the perils of a forbidden affair with a powerful man driven by ambitions of his own.

Painful to finish
Revisado: 12-05-19
I would have enjoyed it more with more lifelike narration, but don't think it was nearly as good as Next Year in Havana. The characters were whiney, and the book was painful to get through...but I made it nonetheless.

Historia
Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

My favorite so far
Revisado: 09-26-15
I loved this book. If this was the last of the Gamache books, I would have been satisfied. It had adventure, intrigue, love, suspense, evil, beauty and redemption.
