Okay Story Ruined by Narration
Revisado: 10-20-23
I just could not immerse myself into this story due to the horrible narration. The voice overs were fine, but the background effects were beyond annoying. I'd call this an over-dramatized adaptation. Better to read the book and skip this audiobook. It will save you a migraine.

Lacking Plot Development
Revisado: 10-19-23
What a waste of 11 hours and 19 minutes. I kept waiting for a plot that never developed. The world building was lackluster, at best. The characters were unrelatable and annoying. The book felt emotionally flat and overall unfinished.

Centuries ago, Illarion was betrayed - a dragon made human against his will, then forced to serve humanity as a dragonmount in their army, and to fight for them in barbaric wars, even while he hated everything about them. Enslaved and separated from everyone he knew and from his own dragon brothers, he was forced into exile in a fey realm where he lost the only thing he ever really loved.

Cut and Paste
Revisado: 08-04-16
The only thing going for this Audiobook is the narrator. Half the story was cut and paste (some parts literally!) from the last book in the series. The book repeats stale storylines and develops about every relationship but that of the two main characters. Characters popped in and out with little rhyme, reason, or context. If you haven't read prior books in the series, you will be completely lost. Overall, very sloppy, very lazy, very disappointing storytelling. Don't waste your time on this one!!

Great story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 09-22-14
Reading this book was fantastic! However, the audiobook was one of the worst I've heard in years. The narrator was horrendous. She did high pitched, completely unrealistic voices for the pixies. Then she mixed up voices of characters throughout the audiobook. It was so bad that I couldn't finish it after chapter six. Stick to the written word on this one!

Poor installment to excellent series
Revisado: 11-07-13
If I had to sum this book up in one word, it would be "lacking." The best thing it had going for it was the narrator. A very sad state of affairs for one of my favorite series. This book added nothing to the build-up of the overall series. Instead it seems to be a subplot that branches off and leads to a dead end. In short, after pissing off Dragos (the Wyr King) for constantly fighting each other, Aerial and Quintin (two Sentinel soldiers) are ordered to a post-war devastated foreign land to prevent looters. They have to learn to get along because a big bad witch comes on to the scene and their survival depends on working together. They are attacked, injured, captured, and then escape. They fight the big bad witch who is trying to loot an ancient spell to resurrect her dead mate. They win. (Snore.) The title "Kinked?" Oh, right, because the author takes an attempt at character development involving BSMD - and miserably fails! The "kinky" aspect of the romance between Quintin and Aerial was so forced and clumsy it was appalling. I felt like I was reading a 13 year old write about what they envision as BSDM. I mean, there were velvet bonds and a lot of ordering around so it must be BSDM - right?

Lacking Installment to Great Series
Revisado: 10-30-13
I really wanted to love this installment but it was a huge disappointment. If you have not read the rest of the series, do not attempt this as a stand-alone. It brings together a lot of previous plots and subplots without explanation. For those that have kept up with the series - the mommy issues continue, predictable alliances solidify, the big bad 'reborn' plot continues, and it all comes together with a 'cascading' (hint hint) effect. I know that sounds engaging, but I would have preferred the last 3 chapters as a novella and cut out the rest of the superfluous clutter that near bored me to tears. Just saying. The best thing this audiobook had going for it was the narrator.

Cliche with bad narrator to boot
Revisado: 10-26-13
The narrator's bad southern accent and mispronounced words were so cringe-worthy that I could barely stand to continue listening. Add to that unoriginal world-building and a predictable plot - yeah, not much to like here. It's also one of those books where the characters tell you every emotion, in detail, that they're feeling but don't demonstrate those emotions. I was extremely annoyed at how unbelievable the character's reactions to situations were. Overall, a bland book with a terrible narrator.

Don't Doubt That You'll Love Styxx
Revisado: 09-14-13
I had nearly given up on the Dark Hunter Series after the last couple installments. In fact, I nearly passed over Styxx because I had my doubts that Kenyon could weave him into a character that I could learn to like. Boy was I stunned by her writing genius! Kenyon wove a story of a family. The story revolves around the assumptions each person makes about others within the family and the devastating consequences that are wrought from actions taken based on those assumptions. It is a story of misunderstandings, regrets, and forgiveness. There is also an engaging romance at the forefront of the storyline that is at times sweet and at other times heart-wrenching. But it was really the family dynamic that I found the most fascinating about this installment. If you are a Kenyon fan, don't doubt that you'll love Styxx. The plot is fast paced and engaging and the overall series storyline is significantly advanced in this installment. Old characters take on new depths and there is a much better sense of where this series is headed. This is by far Kenyon's best work since Acheron.

Way Overrated
Revisado: 09-12-13
I purchased this audiobook after reading all the dazzling reviews for the book (and the whole series for that matter) on Amazon. Well, don't believe the hype. This book was mediocre at best. The storyline was nothing original (vampires, blah, blah, blah). The plot took a stumblingly slow and utterly predictable path and the characters fell flat. The narration was horrible. Frankly, there's nothing to miss here.
