Historia
While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out that he and his family would be ready and safe—whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead.

Worse apocalyptic book ever!
Revisado: 11-14-23
it's quite obvious from the start that this guy has no real imagination and has no idea how to prep or survive a grid down situation. I doubt from reading this book he's even been in a blackout for more than 2 hours. But the whole subject of this book is based on the writers love for his political candidate and the entire story is nothing but one long boring political ad. I stopped listening just a couple hours in.

Historia
When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

The 1 credit I spent on a 43 hr book, was a wasted
Revisado: 10-05-21
1st thing I noticed with the characters in this book really had no true feelings. Several lost family members and were able to get over it immediately. There's never any consistencies between the stories and the plots in one instance the creatures are overpowering and in the next being overpowered which is it. And Kraus narrates his own book given the worst voice overs for any characters you could possibly imagine. Then there were the parts where the story just trimbles on just to add filler to make it longer.. It was so boring that my mind would wander and I would lose whole sections of the story. I will never read another book by Kraus again.

Revisado: 05-31-19
Narrator is far to dramatic and just doesn't have the voice.
Main character is a prepper and has no idea what's going on around him. Terrorist at beginning of the book made out to be nice guys and sympathetic to the individual. Some of the characters thoughts and actions just would not happen in real life.

The dead talk - to the right listener. They can tell us all about themselves: where they came from, how they lived, how they died, and, of course, who killed them. Forensic scientists can unlock the mysteries of the past and help serve justice using the messages left by a corpse, a crime scene, or the faintest of human traces.

Far more than I expected
Revisado: 04-22-17
Honestly, I only bought this book because I was out of points, needed something to listen to and the price was cheap. I'm not interested in forensics or detective work but I'll listen to most anything on a long boring trip. However, this book blew me away. Rarely do I give perfect ratings on a book muchless take the time to do a review. The narrator displayed great emotion in her reading of the book and spoke clear and very well paced. The writer has obviously done his research not only into the subject but in his history as well. Through the writers words and clear details are given so that anyone can understand the science. You can witness the birth and growth of forensics and the people that have bought it about.

Historia
In recent years, scientists have hypothesized life-forms that can only be called "weird": organisms that live off acid rather than water, microbes that thrive at temperatures and pressure levels so extreme that their cellular structures should break down, perhaps even organisms that reproduce without DNA. Some of these strange life-forms, unrelated to all life we know, might be nearby: on rock surfaces in the American southwest, hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor, or even in our own bodies. Some, stranger still, might live in Martian permafrost, swim in the dark oceans of Jupiter's moons, or survive in the exotic ices on comets.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 03-13-15
I bought the book expecting stories on different types of alien life. it ended up being about microbe life and some possible alien life mixed in. I am not interested in microbe life however the book itself turned out to be quite entertaining. Even the reader made it enjoyable and I am glad I ended up buying and listening to the book.

I pushed through as much as I could on this book but had to stop. The writing and subject are outstanding However, Suzanne Toren reads it as if she's standing in front of a class of first graders. I'll buy the printed version.

I am a Alissa fan. However, this is not his best work. Also the narrators voice bored me to the point of deleting the book before I was half through it.

Narrator

I enjoyed the story however, personally I will avoid future audios by this Narrator. There was never any real emotion in his voice. Worse was the long silenced and sudden pause between sentences causing several times for me to reach for my phone thinking the audio app had stopped working.

Insufferable
Revisado: 08-06-13
What disappointed you about Ultima Thule?
I could no longer torture myself and had to end the story half way through. At this point the character has yet to make it out of the office building. Not only do all the characters seem boring but the narrator, Jim Roberts, reads as if a bed time story to small children.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jim Roberts’s performances?
No.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No.

Like so many others, Ramón Espejo ran from the poverty and hopelessness of the Third World to the promise of a new world, joining a host of like-minded workers and dreamers aboard one of the great starships of the mysterious, repulsive Enye. But the life he found on the far-off planet of São Paulo was no better than the one he had abandoned.

Revisado: 05-13-11
I only do reviews if the book is extraordinarily good or really bad. This book was extraordinary great. The characters were well portrayed with lots of personality. Just when you think you know what's around the next bend, your jaw drops. The ending does not leave you having but does beg for a sequel.
