I loved the characters. The story was really good but the witty dialogue was the best. I wish the sequel was in audio but I'll have to actually read it because I need more of this wit.

The perfect read

This sequel is not only a perfectly written book the inclusion of Dawes, as the reader, makes this (and the prequel) the best Audibles of the year. Winter’s skill in world build, character creation, and romantic tension makes anything written an automatic read. I look forward to more stories in this universe of richly drawn and complicated women.

Vivid and emotionally stirring

Found the entire thing from story to performances to be fantastic. A vivid depiction of old hollywood thru the lens of fictional characters trying to swim the rocky culture of the times. It is at the end of the day I love story of many forms.

Haley Cass is my new favorite author. Everything about her stories are perfect. I laugh. I cry.
Please, always use Lori Prince to narrate! The combination is Audible gold!

Simper’s adaptation is first rate

I will begin by saying I am a fan of the author who is quite gifted at world building and weaving of characters. An adaption seems a departure compared to her original works but a welcome departure. The retelling of the 1872 Gothic novella Carmilla brings a lush, dark, and passionate tale to a modern reader. The eventual romantic relationship between the two female leads holds completely authentic chemistry under the still reserved time the character’s live.

Any critical feed falls to the voice work which I found at times to be far more plucky and modern sounded for a tale set in the past and at times the “up speak” at the end of sentences grew redundant.

However, none of that kept me from enjoying this version of the classic Vampire novella. I only wish it had been longer considering how gifted the author is at painting pictures for the reader.
