it kept me interested from the beginning with its emotional storytelling. The twists and turns were perfectly placed and I didn't see them coming. definitely recommend.

Historia
Summer has come to Niflheim. The lichens are growing, the six-winged bat-things are chirping, and much to his own surprise, Mickey Barnes is still alive—that last part thanks almost entirely to the fact that Commander Marshall believes that the colony’s creeper neighbors are holding an antimatter bomb, and that Mickey is the only one who’s keeping them from using it. Mickey’s just another colonist now. Instead of cleaning out the reactor core, he spends his time these days cleaning out the rabbit hutches. It’s not a bad life. It’s not going to last.

Historia
Mickey Barnes is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.

Where does The Painterly: A Short Story rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I loved the story. I was not expecting the twist in the story. it is packed with beautiful imagery and keeps the listener wanting more.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Lana was my favorite. She seems beautiful and kind, yet mysterious.
Have you listened to any of Nina Mansker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. However her narration is beautiful and she has a lovely voice and tone. I will be listening to more.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I wanted to hear what happened next.
Any additional comments?
I absolutely loved this book and look forward to the next title put out by James Johnson or read by Nina Mansker. Wonderful writing and beautiful narration.
