Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

Historia
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Mediocre

This never really took off for me. The relationships were flat and not particularly evolved. it didn't help that the narrator brought to mind the books of Gor.

Beautifully Crafted
Revisado: 07-15-18
This is every woman's story, since antiquity. It pressed at times on the places that I ache, as a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a lover. The generous cast of characters from Grecian mythology we're not so different from those found in the modern every-day.
The choice of reader was perfect. The combination of book and reader created a higher plane for magic.

Almost as boring as my real life
Revisado: 07-12-18
One dimensional antagonists.
No compelling storyline to justify the decisions of the main character.
Pointless development of some characters who slip so easily from the story that one has to wonder why they are mentioned at all.
Good narrator.
Nothing in the books was interesting until deep into the third, and then it all wrapped up with another set of pointless (no pun intended) actions.
That said, I finished the books, albeit with all the pleasure and benefits of eating stale Grape Nut cerealm

Childhood friends Patricia Delfine and Laurence Armstead didn't expect to see each other again after parting ways under mysterious circumstances during high school. After all, the development of magical powers and the invention of a two-second time machine could hardly fail to alarm one's peers and families. But now they're both adults, living in the hipster mecca San Francisco, and the planet is falling apart around them.

Harry Potter Meets Snow Crash Meets The Circle
Revisado: 06-29-18
The book is fantasy and sci-fi and dystopia rolled in a neat package where every word is beautifully crafted and every word counts.
The book starts off so whimsically, with young protagonists and cartoonishly evil antagonists, reminiscent of Harry Potter.
And then the world grows up. No one is purely good or evil as actions are anchored in good intentions and incomplete knowledge. The misguided groupthink and spooky technology is ala The Circle or Snowcrash.

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

Interesting Bubblegum

Cowboys gone superhero/supervillain in an alternate world. . This fits well in fantasy fiction that crosses over the young adult/adult line. It was an easy read, with some interesting philosophies that were palatable and not too intense.

Can't get through
Revisado: 10-26-17
I've tried several times to read this and just can't. It would have been better if the writer didn't try to force the anachronistic style, and just wrote it more naturally. It just didn't work, and the style killed the story line.

Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.
