Historia
No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Really good “light listen”.
I enjoyed the story and was surprised by the twist at the end.

Historia
Montserrat has always been overlooked. She’s a talented sound editor, but she’s left out of the boys’ club running the film industry in ’90s Mexico City. And she’s all but invisible to her best friend, Tristán, a charming if faded soap opera star, though she’s been in love with him since childhood. Then Tristán discovers his new neighbor is the cult horror director Abel Urueta, and the legendary auteur claims he can change their lives—even if his tale of a Nazi occultist imbuing magic into highly volatile silver nitrate stock sounds like sheer fantasy.

Just the right amount of horror

I loved the Mexican cultural references and all the film trivia. I can’t say it wasn’t predictable, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed it

It’s a fun exploration of the ethics of cloning humans and contact with possibly sentient alien species.
Loved it, waiting for more booms from the author.

Excellent story and performance

As always, Tana French doesn’t disappoint.
Great story and character building. The performance really managed to put me into the atmosphere of a small Irish village.

Feel like I’ve wasted a credit on this one
Revisado: 09-16-23
The premise of the book was excellent. I loved the parallel timelines and the idea.
The execution - not so much.
The characters are simplistic and so stupid in their actions that it made me stop halfway through listening.
It was soooo essential that Caroline had to take her essential oils with her! I got why after reading a summary with spoilers, but bah! Not for me.
