Historia
One afternoon, in a town in Southeastern Nigeria, a mother opens her front door to discover her son's body, wrapped in colorful fabric, at her feet. What follows is the tumultuous, heart-wrenching story of one family’s struggle to understand a child whose spirit is both gentle and mysterious. Raised by a distant father and an understanding but overprotective mother, Vivek suffers disorienting blackouts, moments of disconnection between self and surroundings.

Be patient
Revisado: 10-11-20
It’s feels a little slow and clunky at first, but hang in there. The disjointed narrative eventually finds its way rather beautifully. This style is an apt reflection of the human experience, of human connecting, searching and finding and dissimulating and reconciling. Highly recommend. I was moved.

Historia
Once the reserve of only the most hardcore enthusiasts, ultra running is now a thriving global industry, with hundreds of thousands of competitors each year. But is the rise of this most brutal and challenging sport - with races that extend into hundreds of miles, often in extreme environments - an antidote to modern life, or is it a symptom of a modern illness? In The Rise of the Ultra Runners, award-winning author Adharanand Finn travels to the heart of the sport to investigate the reasons behind its rise and discover what it takes to join the ranks of these ultra athletes.

Good account of the state of ultrarunning
Revisado: 07-06-19
Reads like an ethnography mixed a memoir. I’ve been an ultrarunner and fan of the sport for many years now. It’s a niche sport with even more sub-niches, and the current events, intrigue, and legends have historically been passed orally up until the last couple of years.
There wasn’t really a way of knowing the stories outside of your immediate scene before the advent of social media. Finn does a great job of distilling those diffuse stories into the most thorough snapshot of the sport today. There wasn’t much storyline aside from the personal anecdotes that I wasn’t already familiar with but the way he built it into a narrative made me feel like I was discovering all of those bits of pieces for the first time. Though I certainly can’t say it without bias, I don’t think you have to be an ultrarunner or even a casual sports enthusiast to enjoy this book. Interesting for all.
