Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

A delightful story, well read
Revisado: 01-25-23
This appears to be the author’s first book and I look forward to more. In fact, another is promised for the last quarter of 2023. This is a pleasant, very nicely crafted story. He’s added deft, unexpected depth to the D&D trope races without being trite or smugly cute.
I read it first, then decided to get the Audible recording, which is read by the author. I would be very surprised if this is his first audio performance. The voices, accents and intonation are excellent

Historia
Oliver was a very minor mage. His familiar reminded him of this several times a day. He only knew three spells, and one of them was to control his allergy to armadillo dander. His attempts to summon elementals resulted in nosebleeds, and there is nothing more embarrassing than having your elemental leave the circle to get you a tissue, pat you comfortingly, and then disappear in a puff of magic.

Minor Mage is YA but it is not childish
Revisado: 12-02-21
I’ve enjoyed every one of T Kingfisher’s books. This is YA, yes. But it deals with issues kids face, even though we adults don’t like to admit it. There is snarky humor, and horror, adults screw up, one quite horribly, but there is also real kindness. I’d recommend it to adults as well as kids

Not a good one
Revisado: 10-23-20
I like Bear’s writing a lot, one of very few who writes both fantasy and sci-fi extremely well.
However the reader has a voice like breaking glass and this story isn’t engaging enough to get past the irritation

Historia
The Gage was an artist, once, and a lover. To avenge his murdered beloved, he allowed a sorcerer to sheathe his body in mirrored bronze. His vengeance is complete now; the sorcerer has long since perished. But the Gage endures. The Dead Man had a purpose once as well: he was raised to be the protector of a Caliph. The Caliph died; the Dead Man did not. Now the Dead Man and the Gage have become companions of the sword, itinerant mercenaries. They bear a message to the besieged young queen of one of the Lotus Kingdoms.

I have the digital print book and love it
Revisado: 04-13-19
The two readers are an interesting approach - though they use different pronunciations for some of the character names with is a bit jarring. The story itself is wonderful - interesting characters, beautiful settings, intriguing magic and political situation - there is at least one more book forthcoming in this series. If you liked STELES OF THE SKY you will like this - it's set in the same world some 40 years after that story ends.
My low overall rating is because this is billed as "unabridged" and the tech support person confirmed this. It isn't. It's missing a segment that's in the printed book and while the love scene that's been clipped isn't critical a further part of the story IS. I've already talked to tech support and we re-downloaded the book to no avail, it absolutely is not in there. And that, far more than the two readers differing pronunciation of the names, is quite disappointing to me.
