Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

One of my all time favorites
Revisado: 07-25-17
What made the experience of listening to Ready Player One the most enjoyable?
As someone who grew up with the video games, RPGs and other pop culture of the 80s, this was a deeply nostalgic. The constant references to things from my childhood provided a huge blast from the past that made an already really good story all that much more fun.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is hard to pick one character as a favorite as they all were very good. None of them were perfect but they all had important roles to play as the story progressed.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I had 15 hours straight to listen, I would have. Unfortunately, real life pulled me from The Oasis more than I would have liked.. but I still managed to listen to the whole thing in under 2 days.
Any additional comments?
This is my 2nd listen to this audio book and it still remains one of my favorite. It is a really good story that I highly recommend.

Not like Game of Thrones or Hunger Games
Revisado: 01-02-14
Any additional comments?
To describe this book as anything like Game of Thrones and Hunger Games is an absolute insult to the excellent writing and rich story of those two series.
The author does nothing to really set a scene, leaving you feeling like the world is paper thin (It was dark when they entered the garden [Throne of Glass type writing] … vs … Shadows fell across the rough stone pathway and a faint scent of roses hung in the air as they crept into the moonlit garden [Game of Thrones and Hunger Games type writing made up by me]). It is the difference between seeing a vivid, vibrant 360-degree picture of your world (Game of Thrones and Hunger Games) and trying to get the big picture by looking through a straw (Throne of Glass).
The royal court “intrigue” and royal family “dysfunction” in Throne of Glass is nothing like Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones has an intricate web of lies, deception and manipulation involving dozens of characters where Throne of Glass has a corrupt king who is absent for 2/3rds of the book, a mysterious/smarmy lord that you still know almost nothing about by the end of the book and a single catty, jealous courtier that is trying to thwart any relationship between Celaena and the prince.
Characters come and go only when necessary to hit the authors plot points, leaving them all very shallow and undeveloped. I found myself not really liking any of them… Including the heroes of the book.
The main character, Celaena Sardothien, is supposed to be “the world’s greatest assassin” (which the author tell you… over.. and over.. and over.. and over again), yet 3/4ths of the way through the book she had yet to do much of anything other than whine, threaten, fret over two guys (pseudo love triangle) and arrogantly bully everyone (including the captain of the guard who is supposed to be holding her captive) into doing whatever she wants ... simply because she is “the world’s greatest assassin”.
The “trials” Celaena is put through are boring and are mostly glossed over, leaving the only real action of the book to the final few chapters. There is no comparison to the competitive, brutal hunting and killing of the Hunger Games series vs the totally unthreatening archery target practice and castle wall climbing of Throne of Glass.
Maybe expectations were set too high because of the comparisons to Game of Thrones and Hunger Games being thrown around, but this book was a complete disappointment. I won’t be getting any others from this series.

So, I have to admit that I picked this one up because the picture of Cat on the cover reminded me of my favorite character on True Blood (Jessica Hamby). I love red heads and vampires are sexy... so a hot red headed vampire.. drool.
I know, I know.. not exactly the best way to pick a book, but in this case it paid off.
Cat is believable and real as she shifts from awkward self-consciousness to kicking ass and back again. Her snark had me cracking up throughout the book.
Bones (who I think is very similar to Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is charming, strong and witty.
The story-line is a fantastic mix of supernatural action, suspense, romance and sex that keeps you interested from cover to cover.
I'm definitely going to give the rest of the series a listen.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori. Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

This was a very good start to a series of books. It is a little slow to get going as you are introduced to all of the characters and backstory starts to fill in. I felt it was worth the listen by the end.

If you'd like to hear someone with an obnoxious infomercial voice go from offering tell you things you've already known since you were a teenager to strange suggestions on how to get laid through hypnotism by talking and touching a woman's wrist then this book is for you. Otherwise save your money. I can sum up this book in one sentence: Women like men who are decisive and confident. Wow.... earth shattering.

Historia
Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.

Fantastic, insightful listen
Revisado: 03-23-11
Have you ever felt like modern church leaders more resemble the Pharisees of the Bible than they do Christians?
Preaching hatred and discrimination. Focusing on collecting and amassing money, power and extending influence. Judging everyone. Condemning anyone who doesn't go to their church and believe exactly what they believe.
Those are not the Christian values I believe in. They are not the things that I know in my heart are right, but yet I hear them endlessly from today's "Christian" churches.
Love Wins provides Biblical explanation for the things I've always felt in my heart were right but could never quite explain. The God and Christ I believe in are too big, their love and compassion too expansive to fit into the little box that modern churches want to stuff them into. Rob Bell does a fantastic job of fleshing out these truths.
