Historia
The Spinning Jenny was invented in 1770, and with that, a new era of manufacturing and industry changed lives everywhere within a generation. A world filled with unrest wrestles for control over this new world order: A mother’s husband is killed in a work accident due to negligence; a young woman fights to fund her school for impoverished children; a well-intentioned young man unexpectedly inherits a failing business; one man ruthlessly protects his wealth no matter the cost, all the while war cries are heard from France.

Doesn’t grip me like other Follett novels, but I still enjoyed it

My least favorite of the Knightsbridge books
Revisado: 09-07-24
The writing is good, as always, but whereas other books in the line taught me interesting history about early England, masonry, the reformation, etc. , the focus here is the war with France and Battle of Waterloo, the content on the mechanization of spinning and weaving seemed superficial. I was disappointed.

Great story, but I stopped twice
Revisado: 08-07-24
It took me longer than usual to get through this audio book. The narration for Kyra (which made her character flaws even more glaring) just infuriated me. I would stop the book, then come back to it a few days later, the leave again when she did such stupid things. Eventually I made it through and was in tears at the end. Great story. I would have enjoyed it more if I had just read the digital version, which is what I did for the next volume in the series. Let me clarify, the narrator is great, but his interpretation of Kyra just drove me crazy.

Historia
The much-anticipated return of Henning Mankell’s brilliant, brooding detective, Kurt Wallander. On a winter day in 2008, Håkan von Enke, a retired high-ranking naval officer, vanishes during his daily walk in a forest near Stockholm. The investigation into his disappearance falls under the jurisdiction of the Stockholm police. It has nothing to do with Wallander - officially. But von Enke is his daughter’s future father-in-law. And so, with his inimitable disregard for normal procedure, Wallander is soon interfering in matters that are not his responsibility.

Complicated and satisfying

For fans of Wallander this is one of the best. A fitting cap to the series.

Asians in MN! I loved it. The vivid sounds of Northern Minnesota totally took me there, and I was hooked into the mystery.

Radio story style
Revisado: 01-27-24
I really dislike the multiple narrative / sound effects “audible theater” style used for this audio book and wish that the style was clearly stated before I spent points or disk space on this title.
