Historia
July 25, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the Anomaly. On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII:a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide. Its curve not of nature, but design. Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why. But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space. For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

What a great THUD first contact THUD experience!
Revisado: 06-29-23
I already loved the Fractalverse, so this inside look at the first contact with new life out in the universe was right up my alley. I think the writing was lyrical and engaging, especially as we learned more about Alex and his emotional state as the crew gets closer and closer to the precipice of the unknown.
My favorite quote from the book:
"...we all exist in the same universe. Convergent evolution suggests there'll be some similarity. . . . I don't have a lot in common with a spider, but I could probably agree with a spider on which one is more attractive, or which of the other spiders is largest and most brightly colored. Assuming we see the same part of the spectrum. There are a lot of places for shared ground, no matter how different we are."
However, I need to give credit to his description of the "inexorable march of entropy" as well because that hit so close to home. If I have one small critique, it's that parts of the story seemed to drag on while others raced by, and while I can appreciate that it may have been by design based on the overall story, I can't help but want moreeeeeee.
The narrator was divine, as well. Great inflection and variation between characters.
I gave Fractal Noise 4 out of 5 stars. :)

A Seriously Engrossing Read!
Revisado: 06-14-20
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars! :)
Favorite Moment:
Anytime Shay talks about physics. As a future Chemist, I’m a sucker for science!
This book was a brilliant start to a plague-riddled dystopian trilogy that’s mixed with a healthy dose of science fiction! It’s got everything: a top-secret government project, kidnapping, murder, mystery, deceit, dark matter, and a love story. I first heard of the story at BookCon 2019 in NYC at the publisher’s booth and have been itching to read it ever since! I was even approved for the ARC on NetGalley in June of 2019, but life finds a way of getting in the way and I JUST NOW got to read it. Better late than never, especially when the reward is a book this good, right?! :D We’ll leave out the irony of finally getting to read about a flu-like epidemic thanks to a newfound abundance of free time from being in the middle of a flu-like pandemic…
Warning, there may be mild spoilers ahead!
The story takes place in Scotland, where an underground lab is running a series of secret experiments. Nearby, the main character Shay lives with her mom in a small town. The area surrounding the lab is suddenly plunged into chaos when there is an explosion at the same time that Shay’s adventure begins. She, along with Kai—a boy from a nearby town that she meets by chance—embark on a journey to find out what happened to Kai’s sister Callie, but instead they begin to uncover the cause of the epidemic that is ravaging their home. From there, things only get worse as Shay falls ill and the epidemic spreads across Europe…
There’s so much more to this story than my vague synopsis, but I loathe spoilers. You’ll just have to check this one out for yourself and see what happens next—and let me know what you think!
Also, I listened to this on audio, but also have an ebook and a hardcover. I’m not obsessed or anything…
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Historia
Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship - the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

A beautiful coming-of-age story
Revisado: 08-06-18
"Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe" is a beautiful story of young love. Each award this book has received is well-earned. The story has originality--and not just with the LGBT aspect. The narrator also adds to the feel of the story, giving each character life through definition and articulation. As a kid, I longed for characters like Ari and Dante, so I would recommend this for any young adult reader.
