Historia
Visiting her family's South Carolina estate, socialite Gray Godfrey wakes from a night out to an empty bed. Her husband, Paul, is gone, and a thrashing hangover has wiped her memory clean. At first, she's relieved for the break from her tumultuous marriage; perhaps Paul just needed some space. But when his car is found abandoned on the highway, Gray must face the truth: Paul is gone. And Gray may not want him found. Her life is unraveling. When a stranger named Annie calls claiming to know Paul's whereabouts, Gray reluctantly accepts her help.

Didn’t like
Revisado: 08-15-23
I didn’t like the story, the characters or even the narration. I did listen to the whole book and it was suspenseful enough, but the ending was just dumb, in my opinion, a waste of time.

Historia
What do you do when your world ends? At 28 years old, Krista Schlyer sold almost everything she owned and packed the rest of it in a station wagon bound for the American wild. Her two best friends joined her - one a grumpy, grieving introvert, the other a feisty dog - and together they sought out every national park, historic site, forest, and wilderness they could get to before their money ran out or their minds gave in.

Hard to listen to
Revisado: 09-04-21
I thought about quitting this book every time I started listening. Although parts were well written and I enjoyed listening to and learning about the various national parks, history, wildlife, scenic hiking trails and beautiful lakes and rivers , it felt like a lecture much of the book. Her personal story was a bit more compelling but something was just off-putting about the narration. Occasional humor and occasional raw emotion but mostly just hard to get through.

Historia
The lure of paradise was unmistakable, and Bill Butler was on a quest to find it with his wife Simonne-riding the Pacific currents on their sloop. In this powerful account of their 66-day odyssey, Butler tells a gritty, harrowing tale of their battles against nature, despair, and their own demons. He reveals how he and Simonne found the strength to survive despite the ravages of hunger, storms, and sharks. Based on Butler's faithful log entries, 66 Days Adrift is both a chilling cautionary tale for sailors with big ideas and an inspiring story of love, faith, and survival against long odds.

Excellent survival story!
Revisado: 03-07-21
I really enjoyed this book. I sped up the narration to 1.2x and he was then ok. Yes he didn’t have much inflection in his voice but I could understand him. The story was gripping. I can’t even imagine the daily horror and stress of being lost at sea, attacked by sharks incessantly, and being narrowly missed by so many boats. Very detailed and I really have to admire the thought process and intelligence of both survivors. Yes it was hard to listen to the incessant marital bickering but realistic.

Incredible story and narration
Revisado: 02-22-21
After listening to several dozen audiobooks, I can honestly say this was the best narrated yet! The story, the will to survive, the details, the aftermath...this book was excellent in every way!

Historia
Teetering awkwardly on the brink of insanity, unable to handle life in snowy, cold, ultra-conservative North Idaho, Carl and Erin sold their house and set out in search of a new place to call home. Suddenly finding themselves completely free of responsibilities, jobless, and with a little spare cash in the bank, it didn't take long before their serious search for a new life took some unexpected twists and turns. This is the story of what day-to-day life is really like on one of America's greatest trails.

Loved it!
Revisado: 02-09-21
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had to slow down the speed of the narrator because she talks fast and occasionally gets tongue tied a little bit, but overall well done. The author wrote with a very passionate and introspective appreciation of the beauty and reality of the outdoors!

Historia
In May of 1963, Seattle mountaineer Jim Whittaker stepped into world history by becoming the first American to summit Mount Everest. More than 50 years later, he is still regarded as a seminal figure in North American mountaineering, as well as an astute businessman who helped create the outdoor recreation industry. A Life on the Edge: Memoirs of Everest and Beyond is Jim's courageous, no-punches-pulled autobiography and a look at a peripatetic, sometimes difficult life.

Honestly one of the best books ever!!
Revisado: 12-15-20
This book was incredibly inspiring, well written, well narrated, and so full of adventure- everything all in one! I wasn't expecting much considering this audiobook was free for me, but it swiftly exceeded my expectations and totally sucked me in. Honestly, the story of Jim's life is so exciting, so above and beyond the ordinary man, it's hard to believe he's real. Yet he's so humble and open, and such a sincere and honest person, that you feel like he's your personal friend and cheer him on in every step of his fascinating life. I would rate this 10 stars if I could!!

Enjoyed the book
Revisado: 10-26-20
It was a good account of Beck's life and personal realizations and family. It wasn't as much about the climb to Everest as the events leading up to it and a little about the aftermath. Beck is a good story teller and I appreciated his humor and intelligence.

Inspiring
Revisado: 09-15-20
Enjoyed this book from start to finish. I just wish she would have divorced a decade sooner and started her real journey of discovery then. Occasionally it feels like she sees herself too much as a victim in her marriage rather than a confident, independent woman that can effect change, but I do understand why she stayed. She truly gives hope to those of us in our 50s and 60s who are looking forward to an exciting and adventurous future, after retirement and child rearing! "Age is only a number" couldn't be more true than in Diedre's fascinating life.

Technical
Revisado: 09-08-20
Enjoyed the book though really too technical for a non-climber like me. Took several chapters before I decided if I even wanted to finish it. Very intricate details about every climb but fascinating nonetheless. Hugely impressive athleticism and accomplishments! Enjoyed the personal and travel sections and I felt the narration was helpful.

Enjoyable and insightful journey
Revisado: 08-29-20
i really enjoyed listening to this young man's adventure. He achieved incredible growth and is very insightful of himself. Wise beyond his years! The narration took a bit of getting used to but by the end, I really liked how he spoke, as it fit his personality perfectly. It's a book that is as much about personal growth and friendship as it is about his adventures on the trail. Very inspirational for a would-be thru hiker!
