Much better than Tsalmoth in all ways...

Much better story and performance from Tsalmoth. I just hope Steven Brust carries on with Vlad's story instead of going back to the past again to beat more dead horses that long, long ago turned to dust and blew away in the wind.

Love writting of this author, just not this book.

1) The topic of vlad's wife (Cawti) is no longer beating a dead horse. It is beating the ground where the shadow of a dried-up carcass of a dead horse once lay. A mummified dead horse that long ago turned to dust and was blown away in the wind. Obsession for these many years and so many stories is not cool.
2) in certain parts the performance of the narrator was like listening to a very bored history professor a day away from retirement.... with severe brain damage. (kragar and a few others). Kragar is a brilliant 2nd in command and (now the leader) of Vlad's territory with wit. His lines are read like he was a brain-damaged lackey.
3) The story itself was not cool.

Note: I happen to like this auditor's performance in other books.

All the people are arrogant, horrible people fighting other arrogant horrible people and they are all the same. I even lost track of the main charcter. Story is very weak. Even the idea of generasity is lost.

Story hurt by main character so completely stupid

Example: You have hidden, infectious, and and evil people in your base/home trying kill, infect, and destroy you and all your people and friends. Here is a tool to find them all. Here is another tool to kill them all. Then never use either and let the hidden, infectious, and evil to spread to his people and friends throughout base and home.

Story, humor, characters horrible: narrator good

Story was lacking, There was a lack of humor... unless writing to 11 and 12 year old potty humor was the intended demographics. Also, when you start hating the main characters, it is time to give up the series.

An insane clown. A fool. This story won't stop. Why? So painful. The other books are worth listening, This one has gone off the track.

Loved 1 though 4, but despised this one.

Other books were fun. This one the main character does an awful whining and self loathing. Self-righteous speeches get a bit out of hand. I am turning dark and refuse to tell people my actions I take, rinse and repeat chapter after chapter.

Everyone is just too stupid in this book. Filled with filler. Slow moving, just dumb. Main characters and most of his followers intelligence seems to drops down to 3 in this book.

Has potential but..

The Mary Sue 12 year old girl character is a bit much. She can do anything and everything better than full adults, such as even better at being a solder than war hardened veterans. Another example: does not know about Gulf Stream, but yet comes up with concussions or solutions that no adult in the book can do.

Also, some hard to swallow events and I am not talking about a alien ship with an highly intelligent AI. That was easier to accept rather than some of the events that happened in the book.

However, it was an entertaining listen. The performance is not the greatest, but has potential to improve over time. I was able to listen to it without regretting purchase.
