A race high on romance and realistic chills

Very good execution of suspense and a storyplot that keeps twists and turns to surprise the listener. Sometimes it is a bit too emotional in moments of dire suspense. That gives pause to get out of the story and return to one's surroundings. The author is painting a picture of highly dramatic chains of events alike an old fashioned thriller. Counteracting the sometimes romantically overdrawn situations, though, are his characters and the societies they live in and come from . These do exist now quite as described. This is a chilling draught which cannot be simply shut out with the conclusion of this tale. Well done and always a great "page turner"!

Contrast as a frame for an exciting mystery story

Having older people around and as the central characters gives this mystery its unique flavour. I enjoyed getting to know the individuals and their closely knit social network in this idyllic setting . Exciting events happen everywhere and will penetrate the imagined heaven of retirees nonewithstanding their assumed declining faculties . We all are young until we actually leave this life. A quietly philosophical, well written mystery .
The reader's voice seemed to labour a bit which I had to get accustomed to .

The Human Condition

Language creating people and scenes by the listener's awakening memories she experiences is Michael Ende's art. The Human Condition he describes on his unique language. As despondency falters into despair, his creatures always receive the gift of Their Time as the saving grace to find meaning agsin in their life's: The images of Hour Blossoms he creates in his novel MOMO are blooming while the listener engages with his worlds. A gift from a gifted human to his fellows: live your hours as each is a rare, unique blossom only one time... The PRESENT to embrace the present he gives us: we dare to be human again and live in the moment as this is our true nature.Deliberate, compassionate reading to let the Voices of the stotries take stage is Gert Hridenreich's art -and gift to us. We are led into the stories and freed from our surroundings as he commands the text to become alive. A true artist who let the art become alive as he lends himself to its powers. M.Ende and G. Heidenreich form a Duo formidable and harmonious to the great benefit of the listener.

The moral tone of the story first bothered me. Then I started to go along with the developing in characters and story line.

Prebble"s superb reading is expressive, turning most stories into enjoyable asventures. Yet, some stereotyped characters aspects like the German's incurable "Nazi Natur " and the Jewish woman's supernatural ability to "turn yet another cheek" and never loosing her quiet, upset my sense of real people's complexity somewhat.

In Rutledge's shoes

with Rutledge, I never can guess more than he. So, it stays a mystery till the end. The reader I had to get used to. He can often, but not always, make distinctions between the figures. All in all, I liked it.

A great novel

Compelling the story is in its actuality and dramatic content clad in a medical shroud of context. Barry Unsworth is a master of the word and inventive plots in contexts which fascinate in their well fleshed out historic settings- this believable. His language takes the reader into the story. M. Melody's voice is excellent in some parts bringing to live the "spoken words". Yet, he often hasts along to loose the listener a little , leaving the impression he wants to reach the end. If my favourite novel Stone Virgin were to be read in a measured way to give time for the language to unfold, I will listen ( again)!

Simon Prebble the Magician

Simon Prebble brings all the characters to live no matter which sex or age and thus, their relationships unfold in front of the listener. His 0ne-Man-Show is a tour de art and force as he draws the listener in. He makes me "look forward" to my chores as I can listen to his magic evokation of another life, enjoyable in its drama as it is not really real , but could be ! It is a pity that he does not read all novels of the series!!! This is my second time and probably not the last I listen ...

Travel with Pebble

Simon Prebble has again taken me on a journey most enjoyable. Every character appears “in flesh”, so I need no film to picture them! Applaus! Ausgezeichnet 🤩!!! ( I am German and just laugh each time Mr. Prebble „is a German „!

Coming alive

Having left the US a year ago after 15 years living near Chicago, I was sent „back“ with emotional force by ca listening to this production. What was said in the interview , actually happened to me: I „saw“ it as in a film! Being an „ outsider/long-term visitor“ as a German woman, I can relate to every character. I went down the road with Stella and Blanchett and am still chewing on their problems where they touched a nerve with me. I recommend it to everyone who is ready to travel a while with these characters! Take heart-it will make you see more! Go for it!
