Historia
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read.

Wow!

I usually don’t write reviews.
But this book had me at the edge of my seat. I almost didn’t want the book to end because it was written so well. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good But Not Best
Revisado: 10-02-22
Bernard Cornwell is a master storyteller so most of what he writes is compelling. I have so enjoyed his Uhtred and Sharpe sagas that I envy those who have not yet read them. And his retelling of the King Arthur tale (“The Winter King”) is one of the finest works of literature I have read.
So, when I say that “Sharpe’s Assassin” was not his best effort, that statement needs to be understood in the context of his greatness. This story, however, veered close to the silly (as with the play on “Michelangelo”) and failed to show the complex character and plot facades that are emblematic of Cornwell’s best work. Enjoyable but not enthralling.

Sublime Historical Fiction
Revisado: 07-10-20
No one does historical fiction better than Bernard Cornwell. This book, as part of a series, evokes the middle ages in a way that is both genuine and entertaining. His battle scenes are the best I’ve read but what really makes this whole series stand out is the character detail, not just of the major protagonists but even some of the lesser players. I highly recommend the entire Lords of the North series. If you wish to go on another adventure with Mr. Cornwell, I recommend the Warlord Trilogy, a rather startling retelling of the tale of Arthur of the round table.

Cliche-Ridden
Revisado: 06-21-15
One cliche after another. Little new or of value. I suggest reading a good sports biography instead.

Good But Not Great
Revisado: 04-11-15
Good performance. A bit of an affected tone at times.
Story had interesting bits but spent too long on non-triathlon stuff and was repetitive. Ms. Wellington came across as self-absorbed.
Nevertheless, an impressive athlete.
