Historia
Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

I’ve got a big problem with having too much. I like the way Fumio approaches things. Interestingly he quotes several other sources that I have used to help in my transformation and I feel I can use a lot of his philosophy, along with the practical advice.

Hal Beekman is exhausted. With all of his energy devoted to his real estate developments, he doesn’t have the bandwidth to figure out why his wife is sad. As for Stacey Beekman, a transplanted Midwesterner with divorce-whisperer friends, the only solution for a husband who doesn’t desire her is to find a second husband who does. But with Stacey left alone in a new house to parent her tech-addicted children and Hank isolated in a Greenwich McMansion that neither of them ever loved, COVID-19 has surprises in store for the Beekmans.

Whiny Rich white people.
Revisado: 09-27-20
I listen to just the first two chapters of this, where the first two characters introduced themselves. I can go no further.
I really just can’t get into people and complaining about $600 salmon meals, and their private school tuition.
I’m actually someone who could have these sorts of problems if I wanted to, but if I ever did, I certainly wouldn’t complain about them in a book. The whole first two chapters were about how wealthyThese people are, and how they didn’t expect the changes of Covid to affect them. Quite frankly it’s embarrassing

Very enjoyable youth fiction
Revisado: 09-25-19
I’m an adult, but I like stories like this. Friendship, a coherent magical system, making hard choices.
The orchestra in the background , and knowing it was youth players, just made it better.

Like a report
Revisado: 05-02-19
I like non fiction. Usually. This felt like a freshman college report on the Queen, maybe with some tawdry additions to try to get the Enquirer to purchase it. Glad it was free. Would have returned it if it wasn’t. I didn’t think it was a good attempt at anything—-not history, romance, or gossip. The narrator did a pretty good job with little to work with.

You’ve heard of an Essex Girl or even a Chelsea Girl, but what about a Hounslow Girl? Definition of a Hounslow Girl: a young Muslim woman who wears hooped earrings with her headscarf and grapples with traditional values while hustling her way through urban London. The Diary of a Hounslow Girl is a bold and provocative one-person play, written and performed by Ambreen Razia. From the joys of traditional Pakistani weddings to fights on the night bus, this is a comic story of dreams, aspirations and coming of age, told through the eyes of a 16-year-old British Muslim girl.

Just couldn’t stand it, seems like it was “normalizing” profanity, drugs, sex, disrespect for parents. Maybe this is a cultural thing that I just don’t get, but books like this don’t invite me to understand.

Pat and uninteresting
Revisado: 03-24-18
This book was a romance novel set in a world that didn’t make sense. The heroine was pretty solidly awesome, and I liked the narrators voice, so I listened all the way through, hoping for a redeeming storyline. Unfortunately, none came.
Premise is interesting and I could see it happening...division between firstborns and secondborns and zero tolerance of third and laterborns but I couldn’t understand what the big war machine was about. Why, if the secondborns just started their rebellion, was this huge war machine in place? Why, if the secondborns has this amazing weapon that could destroy all technology, did they not use it? And if they only had one, why did they use it when they did?
Rosella only survives because of the men who have loved her by seeing her on a TV screen. (Yes, like I said, she is awesome, but only because three different men that are infatuated with her save her from time to time.) the one time she goes to the battlefield she totally sucks at her job, and betrays her country. For no good reason that I could see. The lives of her countrymen were at stake and she, rather flippantly decides to save someone on the other side.
Everyone has tracking devices, but apparently they are so easy to fool that it can be casually done. And even though there are rules about “relationships” between secondborns, apparently everyone in our story flaunts them and nobody gets caught unless they get pregnant at which point we kill them?
The exclusively firsthand narrative was also odd. We simply never got anyone else’s point of view and, magically, everything that Roselle chose to do or not do was dramatic and suspenseful. Other characters had no depth except for their love, or hatred for, Roselle. I’m not going to return this book because it did keep me listening, but I won’t listen again and will avoid other books by this author unless she writes a travelogue.

Funny, lighthearted, joyful yet addresses self doubt and worldly problems. I love having my teen son read these books, and as a mature adult, I listen over and over for the witty repartee.the stories are enjoyable, but it is the relationship between the characters that keeps me coming back.
