Historia
According to local legend, there is an inn run by gorgeous half-elf women who can ease the pain of broken soldiers like me. Just a rumor, right? That's what I thought…until I met Amalya. Stunning half-elf priestess at a spa hidden in the Borderlands—the semi-magical forest between human and elf territories—she would show me past the front door of a business like no other.

A truely unique experience
Revisado: 06-20-24
Like to headline says, this was a truly unique book. There are a lot of books out there with PTSD characters, but ive never seen one before where they actually try and do something about it. Not to spoil to much, or really any of it, but Mike has a way of writing scenes and characters that draw you in in a way a lot of other authors don't. For example, when he reaches the spa it actually felt like walking into a spa. Hearing about Amalya coming in from a field, actually makes you visualize not just her, but the environment she was in.
As amazing as the story was, if anything it was over-shadowed by the voice acting talent. CB always delivers a great performance, but KP absolutely blew me away. I had never heard her do anything before, but she is rapidly becoming a must-listen for me.
Give this a try, it may be short, but it is absolutely worth the cost.

Martin loved his job, believing he truly changed the world for the better. As a researcher at Replica Imagination, he was a small cog in the goliath's wheel. The mega-corp helped reunite cloned pets with their loving families. He wished his talent could be used in the realm of human cloning, helping the terminally ill, but the legal and moralistic hurdles to such research seemed insurmountable.

Starts strong, and stays that way
Revisado: 09-16-23
Once again Marcus Sloss and Jessica Threet make a deadly combination that is as pleasing to the ears as it is the brain.
There is no need to rehash the plot, as other reviews/the summary do a great job of that already, but it's worth pointing out that it is really as unique as it sounds. None of the Harem-lit books deal with cloning, and even if they did, I can't imagine they would handle it this well. Story kept me entertained the entire time, and I have already picked up book 2 to continue the story.
As to the narration, little needs to be said. Jessica Threet has not had a bad performance in as long as I have been listening to her, and that trend continues strong. She can breath life into every character she touches, and this was as always no exception. A book done by her is a must-buy so... get this and enjoy.

Another fantastic story by JD Edwin. It really answered a lot of the questions I had from the first, and was amazingly well narrated.

Highly Recomend
Revisado: 05-16-23
The start of this story really reminded me of the start to the movie "It Could Happen to You." Guys wins lotto, thanks to ticket that happens to have a phone number, and so on. Obviously nothing like that movie in ANY other aspect, but it made me laugh thinking about it, and that's always a good thing. From there its really a non-stop ride of plot, and all in all, a fantastic listen. I have a 3 hr commute each day, and while laughing along I felt myself wishing traffic was a little slower for the first time in recorded history.
My only complaint about this would be that it was not dual-narrated. Maybe ive been spoiled by all the new books recently with dual (or more) narration, but this one felt a little flat because of the lack of it. Jeffery Holz does a great job as the male characters, but its just missing something having him try to do a female voice.

An alien game show. A deadly challenge. The fate of the world is on Astra's shoulders when a mysterious black orb appears with a challenge for Earth and selects her to compete in its strange - and very public - game. The rules are bewildering, and there are no second chances for losers. Yet, while Astra fights to stay alive and save the world from imminent destruction, the people of Earth are more interested in tabloids and gossip, like whether or not she's engaging in a scandalous love affair with a fellow contestant.

Odd, but in a really fun way
Revisado: 05-08-23
I went into this book not knowing what to expect. I had not read/listened to anything by J.D. Edwin before, so my expectations were neutral, but man, were they surpassed, by a country mile. Without spoiling anything not already outlined in the summary, the basic gist is "its like that one episode of Rick and Morty with the floating heads, but not a singing contest and done 1000x better (not the pointless filler), and crossed with Hunger Games" The story starts a bit slow, with a lot of information pre-loading, but once the story starts going, it never really slows down. The twists I didn't see coming, and I honestly cant help but pick up the next volume.
Keri Rabe did an amazing job with the narration, the only criticism was at some points her delivery was not quite in tone with what she was reading, and it came off as a bit wooden. But again, that was few and far between, for the most part I couldn't help listening to more.

Get out of my head
Revisado: 05-01-23
This book was an interesting take on something that I have thought about all to many times. What if the characters I was designing and pitting against players was real? How could I beat my campaigns knowing what was coming?
Overall a HIGHLY enjoyable read (listen) and a very fun take on a the genre.

WTF did I just listen to?!
Revisado: 04-28-23
Imagine a world where suddenly people were given reality-defying super-powers. And completly in line with OUR world imagine how rapidly the whole thing would fall apart. How fast wars would start/end, millions would die, etc. Now jump several years past that event, and you are at the START of this book.
The MC can best be described as "deadpool with more morals and the ability/curse to be launched back in time everytime he dies." If that sounds wacky and zaney well you on the right track. Now imagine his entire purpose in life is finding a childhood friend he may or may not be in love with, but has no real idea where she is. Oh, and she is a communist. And his car is semi-sentient. And he has a pet eldritch horror.
At no point while listening to this book did I really have any idea what was going to happen next, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Before the first book ended, I had ordered books 2 and 3 because I just had to know how it was going to keep going.

A Book so good I bought it twice
Revisado: 04-28-23
To be clear, the way I bought it twice was I started listening to it, and just couldn't wait to see what happened, so I got the kindle version and speed read it, then went back and listened to the story again.
Something about it drew me in to a level I can't explain. Story wise without spoiling to many details its best described as "command and conquer (the game) but with real stakes." MC get put in charge of defending earth via an artificial fight world, and we are along for the ride as he learns the rules, defends his world and just generally is along for the ride.
Narration is excellent, and like I said, the story really sucks you in.

Like Listening to a great DnD game
Revisado: 04-28-23
There have not been a lot of books over the years that I have "read" and instantly made me feel as if I was hanging out with my friends playing DND. Ironically a YA dark fantasy book now tops that list.
From the amazing worldbuilding (through the backstory of characters), to the creative and sprawling fights, to the fact that the characters felt like actual characters that had real investment in them (not just throwaway 1d shadows of characters) this book was non-stop enjoyment.
Plot wise its a pretty standard "fight your way through a city of the dead" story, but like so much else in high-fantasy that really doesn't matter. The characters are what brings it to life, and they do a fantastic job of it. I know I keep coming back to it, but there is no other way to really describe this book, but "character focused"
If you're a fan of tabletop gaming, or if you just enjoy fantasy with amazing character depth, then I highly recommend this book.

The combination I didn't know I needed
Revisado: 04-20-23
First off, 2 disclaimers that I simply have to share. 1) This is the first true "romance" book that I have listened to, and I do not believe I was it target audience. 2) I received this book for free in exchange for a fair review, and after listening to it, I absolutely will be paying for the rest of the books in the series.
The combination of the above 2 facts should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of this book, and of the sheer epic-ness of the narrators. Not to go to deeply into the story so as not to spoil the surprise, but it centers an arranged marriage between the daughter of the Irish mob, and the son of the Russian mob. Only you know... the daughter is also deeply into the IRA. And that's the least intense thing in this book.
As amazing as the story is, it is almost over-shadowed by the voice cast. Hayden is absolutely amazing, and the accent just made me want to keep listening long after I had should have turned off the car and gone inside. I binged this book in a day, and honestly my only regret is that it wasnt longer.
